Apple says the iPhone4 is programmed to select the cell tower with the best "quality" rather than strongest signal. That said they will probably issue a software fix for the reception bars. It seems if you have skin contact with the steel band around the edge (antenna) the signal strength bars reduce dramatically even though call quality is unaffected.

It's a nice phone on a crappy cell network. I'm not buying one until its offered by Verizon, assuming I don't buy a DroidX first.

They could buy 319s for not much more $$$. A much more useful aircraft.

fDAL guys: In business, pride is BS - performance is everything.

Carl,

I normally agree with a lot of your posts but it looks like we disagree strongly on this topic:

As far as "Delta Pride" goes - Any pride I had in Delta left the minute they furloughed me while outsourcing hundreds of flights to DCI.

As far as errors go - any technology related errors are so far behind much more monumental errors that I guess I never noticed. When I think of DAL management errors the following comes to mind:

Billions on stock buybacks - stock goes to zero - brilliant!
Buy COMAIR High - sell low - brilliant!
Lose hundreds of millions on upside down fuel hedges.
Spend billions on fuel guzzling 50 seat RJs - brilliant!

As you can infer I am not really a kool aid drinker when it comes to DAL managerial decisions. With that being said, I personally know B.W. and am very happy he has been selected for his new position. I think its good news for all DAL pilots.

Additionally, you say you don't care about resumes yet you bemoan another "south" guy getting a job in management. If resumes don't matter, then why do you care if management comes from N or S. Or is that an exception to not caring about resumes? As you say its results that matter - I agree 100% I couldn't give a crap if every manager, CP, LCA from now until doomsday comes from the fNW guys - we are all DAL now and all that matters is that we as a company prosper.

Finally, reading back amongst the recent posts I noticed the fNW guys have different opinions on this topic. This is not a N vs S issue. This is simply good news for DAL Pilots.

Funny, I just read this & did an experiment. What you posted is what happened. I've had no problems with calls thus far, even if the bars drop. It's working well so far.

I'm actually a tech geek, but I'm smart enough to hide it from all but my closest friends. If I didn't I'd end up with a second unpaid job fixing everyones stuff...

I agree. I have a Droid and I really like the phone. I don't drop calls and I can tether my laptop. In fact, I tether a lot. It is a great feature.

The iPhone may be a great success for Apple; however, I feel they are making the same mistakes they did with their desktops in the 80s 90s. They are very proprietary and have even shut out software writers who didn't see it Apple's way. Android is open source, can use flash, and in a few years has taken up 25% of the phone market. Couple that together with Google's dominance in the ad wars, I'm afraid to say that Apply might have again jeopardized a good future.

I was hoping that my Droid phone would get a browser that would support Icrew/Ecrew. Everything else works except when trying to look at your schedule. With the Android 2.2 software getting flash, I suspect that issue will be fixed.

I know that's what management was saying, but I've seen no data to prove that thesis. We had SOC at the end of last year - and we still lost a lot of money in the first quarter of 2010.

Well, the first quarter of 2010 didn't go well with our profits coming from one airline. Here's hoping for the rest of 2010.
