Thats a big airplane, in the back tail section. Wow. Wish the 88 was that big.

The truth Ferd, you say "Stews were Stews", you should note that except for DTW evidently, those same Stews are still Stews.

Just come on down for an ATL-caribbean day trip. You'll see.

Scheduling staff shortages - I was told that right up until the last weeks before all pilots transitioned to the fDL system, some of the fNW schedulers said they were accepting new positions in ATL. Then at the last minute most of them changed their mind and bailed forcing DL to bascially hire pilot schedulers "off the street." I have no way of verifying this, but it was an ALPA source. This is not an attempt to defend the fDL ppl in charge of transition, it is merely what I was told.

Aircrew IT (and I'll throw in PARS/Worldflight) - Without rehashing the whole $AP issue, Worldflight was for the most part superior to FPS/AWABS/whatever the other modules are called. There are a few things in FPS that I like better, but not many. I think most people would no argue this point if it were not for the $AP gorilla. The crew scheduling, however, is a different story. Do I think the fNW system was better, definitely from a pilot and scheduler standpoint. Did it have the capability of working for a group as large as the two combined airlines? I was told NO, it did not and that in fact it was getting close to being maxxed out at fNW. I was NOT told if this was due to a lack of mainframe capacity or if it was a software issue. Again, I didn't work in IT so I could NOT verify this claim.

Since I mentioned Worldflight, I actually found a copy of a fNW flight plan to post next to a FPS flight plan. Somehow those pages from the Jan 2010 FOM revision magically stayed in my FOM rather than being discarded as directed.

Now I have to find a website to post excerpts from the two releases and flight plans side-by-side. FWIW there are a few things from FPS that I like, but I wish they would reformat the output from FPS into the Worldflight format.

The poor dispatchers are on their own as I see no help for them in sight. I fear they will all be bald by the end of the first snowstorm in Japan.

P.S. My comments about Operation Visine have nothing to do with the quality of the person picked to replace GB. It rather refers to the apparent attrition of the fNW culture/personnel from the Chain of Command in Flight Operations.
Informative and good post Nosmo, thanks. Just to make sure, if people go back they will see even the RJ guys saying they had better crew scheduling systems in the regoinals than what we have now. Same as what the NWa folks are saying, so I hope one day we have a better system but I didn't know those systems can max out though, bummer. But at the same time, I'll deal with what we have, not the worst thing by any means, just not the best... yet. There are smarter people in this company working on things and I couldn't even apply for and earn their job, so I'm willing to put some hope they'll come through.

FWIW, I called scheduling 4 times today, no longer than 1 minute wait at 8am, 10am, 1pm, and 6pm. I had a DH and checked in on travelnet and delta.com and swapped my seat fwiw, thats nice.

Nosmo,

I guess you didn't read Carl's Post - Its was all the fault of bad decisions made by B.W.

Not to change the subject, but are any other categories getting calls at 2:45 in the morning for an inverse assignment. Is there a way to turn this off in the middle of the night? This seems a bit ridiculous...
Thanks, fNWA guy.

Thanks, fNWA guy.
Call skeds, have them remove your home phone number from your data.

Give them cell phone number instead.

DAL does NOT have the same capability as fNW to add time zone info and/or "Don't call me after 10pm"

Ferd, you ever decide to attempt that maneuver, let me know. I will be your designated Metro Card swiper. The best time to do that is during a Premier league Saturday morning. The bars open at 0600 for the football matches. That gives you more time to hit them all.

Are you trying to tell us that Delta is going to trash the millions they spent on SAP and buy something new? That I'll believe when I see it
No, about 10,000 posts ago I explained it and SAP. I am not going to go in to that again. Point is that whatever system they use and or modify or create will need to report the same to the templates set up in SAP. No more no less. No conspiracy. That takes a ton of work and time. SAP will spew bad data all over the place if the data going in to said template is not derived the exact same way. Way bigger than us pilots whining about the fact that I-Crew stinks.

You guys need to look past the desperate desire to defend things just because they were fDAL. This will NOT get better until the fDAL guys admit that integration was completed in a foolish and short sighted manner.

Carl
Carl, I believe the integration team like the functionality of your software, but it could not report to SAP. NWA did not run SAP, and to go back to a non-sap company is just plain stupid. You deal with the programs that report to SAP even though they may have less functionality.

fDAL guys: In business, pride is BS - performance is everything.

Carl
Carl it is not Delta Pride. It is called ease of integration. If you understood SAP and how that system links each and every entity here at DAL you would not be making that statement. If they wanted to take three or four years to get to SOC then they could have started with new templates, but really all for a few pilot programs. Nope not going to happen. We will deal with the issues of our old programs while IT develops a program that can report what SAP needs.

The one that has less to hide!

Ferd, I believe that management is hiring Delta pilots for these positions not former this or that.
