Correct. While SS is an absolutely top notch guy, it should be noted that DL continuously cycles fleet captains and CLCP's as a policy. They do not want people squatting in those positions for many years, and for good reason. I don't think it was the best move with putting MD as fleet captain for political reasons, as most on here will agree.

Keep in mind a FNW guy is fleet captain on the 767 fleet, also.

Something else to note is that the fleet captain really doesn't have much influence over the operations of the fleet. It is very often a retired guy and just someone that oversees the AQP... the CLCP is the most influential with procedures. We are a line oriented airline, not a sim oriented (fleet captain has to do with sim more than anything).

But that's not a super premium position.

Scoop-
You read my mind.
Why in the world would a line pilot care if the fleet manager is fNWA or fDAL?
What difference does it make? Unless one of them can give me a pay raise!!

Hey Carl-
Give me a dollar and you can make ALL the management pilots fNWA.

The problem is that these guys didn't want to leave. DAL management made it clear to them that their input was not valued so they would get the hint and either retire or return to the line. Not caring about the opinions of extremely smart top notch people is a problem. It goes to a lack of competence at mid level management positions. That's a concern.

The other insulting part is memos that state how much we are part of the team, but the actions speak of just the opposite. Another concern. But like I say, DAL management was the surviving management. They can do whatever they want. And they are.

I know you like to bring up divisions but I feel like we were past the we/you part and had moved on to "us". Maybe it's because you're behind your fence flying with the same guys you always have to the same places. The rest of us are flying with each other and on each other's aircraft. Management is a hodgepodge of people from all over the industry. This ain't Delta 1980.

And I know many here are all about papering over divisions and just hoping they'll go away. There's no papering over what current DAL middle management is doing. I know you'd prefer not to talk about it, but I'd prefer even more if it wasn't happening.

Here is a specific cultural difference between NW and DL. Read my post again- fleet captains (not fleet manager like you are used to... they are VERY different positions) and CLCPs are cycled out routinely, not necessarily at their will. They continuously keep fresh people in the seat. The longest anyone stays is 2 years usually.

Here's another cultural difference. At NWA, we asked people to leave when it was time to "cycle." At DAL, you're ignored and your professional life is made miserable until you "get the hint." I just find that to be weasly. And as you know, I have a problem with rodents!
