Also, fly a 757/767 where the lowly FO is taken out of the equation and the captain throws the switch. Just do not pull any CB's.

Following the FOM just makes life easy. I have to say that I have never seen an issue here at DAL. Guys do it the way they are told!

It seems to be what they hire.
Who has played this scenario? You call ramp for push, given the "standby" answer, relay that to your tug driver, he asks for brake release to move the plane forward off of a stuck chock. What do you do then? Plane is going to move, wheels will roll. It may only be 2 feet, what do you do...Captain?

As defined, you are under movement.

It is like splitting hairs.

If this is the biggest issue we are doing well.....

Any msp folks. I am transitioning to the great white north and will be moving my airport car to THE msp airport but it will be my commuter car sitting all lonesome most of the time in the employee lot. I have not been there but do they have plugs for engine block heaters in the employee lot? Is it required n these cold cold winters? Thx.

If the company really wanted to get "metrics" on what is happening then they need to have a pay trigger when the main cabin door is closed, another when the last cargo door is closed, and an "out" time trigger tied to wheel movement. Having them all tied to the beacon is the cheapest way to configure the system which is why it is done that way.

I'm sure there are lots of folks in other departments that also think it is absolutely stupid that all those metrics are tied to one switch that WE control! There are also lots of folks that understand how we "cheat" the system and don't want it to change because it would then make their departments look bad and they would have to step it up to fix the problems that are masked by us turning on the beacon when we are not suppose to.

I'm just happy to be going to a DAL-N airplane so it will not be my problem anymore. I hated the MadDog because you got back-handed one week for turning the beacon on before you got push clearance, then the next week you would get slapped for not having it on within one mili-second of the door being shut. I hated that beacon switch!

No plugs in the employee lot, but it shouldn't be an issue. I think that the improvements made in battery technology have solved that problem. I used to keep a rusted-out POS '88 Honda Civic up there and it always started even after a few weeks of sitting in the cold. The real problem is finding the damn car under all the snow: Never forget where you parked or you could spend a half hour wandering through the lot, brushing snow off of random vehicles while slowly succumbing to hypothermia. Enjoy!

Also don't forget that snowplow will more than likely block your car with 10 feet of snow. So make sure you bring a commercial grade shovel to work as well. And wear shoes with good thread, cuz nobody wants to OJI like that, right?

First snow is only a few months away, so it's never too late to be prepared.

I release the brakes and I've got all the integrity in the world. What I don't have time for is to have to wonder if the company is going to try to fire me for every little thing when I am trying to do my job.

If I need to change an out time, I'll do it later. Am I supposed to be afraid to make a decision?

Getting an airplane from point A to point B should not have to be a legal exercise and a "Got cha, your fired!" game. We have got enough to worry about.

Is this is how DAL is? Or, is this just a made up scenario?

I just read on the Deltanet 747 page about Steve Smith the 747 fleet captain stepping down. The 777 fleet captain Mike Doyle is going to take over Steve's duties as fleet captain. Now I am not knocking Mr. Doyle (I don't even know him) but how much 747 experience does he bring to the table? Seems like we would want someone who has a lot of 744 experience running the program not the 777 fleet captain......

I am not one to bring up the North verses South but in this case it sure seems like they are promoting/assigning from within.
