I am all for shutting them down as much as possible. I have never understood why we are not plugged in with both air and electric every single time. Someone in managment needs to address this from the ramp side, but it seems like they always come after the flight crews first.

I agree. My sample size is small, I've been into DTW 4 times in the last month, but I've had significant ground ops issues every single time. The worst was yesterday. We could have easily had an on-time departure after arriving at our jet only 30 minutes prior to push but there was absolutely ZERO urgency on the part of ground guys to make it happen. Result: we took off 45 minutes late. Unacceptable.
And to make matters worse, as we're making PAs to the pax to explain that we're trying to get out on time, the guy dragging his feet the most was the baggage guy. Plus, he looked like he'd just woken up from a crack stupor. No semblance of a Delta uniform. A garish doo rag around his head, high top sneaks with the shoe laces untied and a wallet chain hanging down to the ground. I can only imagine what the pax on the right side of the jet were thinking.

Nu works on a WB. It's a whole different world on the Varsity side, especially when on a WB.
DTW ground ops can be terrible, and if they're actually on it the you'll often end up waiting for a gate agent. The other day I saw a ramper leaning on a container that said 'CAUTION FLAMMABLE JET A'. Do you know what he was doing while he was leaning on said container?

Quite honestly, I've never had the problems you guys seem to. Sure, I've waited my share for a park crew, but I have hardly EVER waited for a push crew.
Maybe it's my winning smile or fragrant body eminations (think lilac on a dewy morning or sometimes the smell of fresh cinnamon buns) that simply causes people to want to be part of my winning team...but don't hate the playa', hate the game...

On a layover in DTW and today I had to check my jepp plate to make sure we landed in DTW. We never stopped rolling from the runway to the gate. But just to be picky...took 5 minutes for ground power and never got air. Oh well..........

I have always had decent experiences in DTW. If they do not hook up the air, I call, and it is there within five mins. Had an a/c in our gate that was dead, called up, had a new gate in a minute, and to add to that, the marshallers were there immediately.
I like DTW, great terminal and nice ppl. I just ask when I need something and that seems to work for me.

It was one of those rare days when DTW was landing on the 27s (happens 3-4 times a year). Usually when this happens, despite whatever direction you come from, you get vectored 270 degrees around the north side of the airport to one of the 27 finals. It's usually good for at least 15-20 minutes.
Well, not this time...last flight of a 4 day. We were coming in from the SE. A slight vector put us on the 27L localizer. Metro tower gave us a "roll to the end approved". A slight right turn, and a chat with ramp control had us rolling gently to a stop right at A-5 with just a tap of the brakes, where the ground crew was waiting, power plug in hand. It was hardly a minute after we had touched down.
As I said, once in a career. Of course, I still had seven and a half hours to wait for my commute home, but hey, a win is a win.
