Sounds like our hub to hub commutes. Lots of people do the MSP - DTW thing.

The flight attendents have something, but I think it's alot more restrictive. But, I guess that would violate the equal employee policy. Like I said, if the company thought it was a good idea it would be done already.

I have to say amen to this.....

I brought up the idea of commuters getting some non-rev priority going to (and from) work. One Capt told me he totally understood the idea, but no way would he vote to have "someone junior to me have priority over me when my wife and I want to use our pass priveleges"

I have been bumped going to work when I missed out on scheduling the JS and tried to Non rev, by families just flying to ATL to shop that day....etc..etc.

I told him to go ahead and pull the ladder up. :-| That is the attitude of MANY of our senior pilots. Hopefully that will change....SOON. Until then I hope they bump some FO that is their FO on their flight to Aruba and they get delayed or CNX.....kharma might make them change their minds...

I see your point, but don't agree, and I highly doubt you told the captain to pull the ladder up. Why should you get priority on a flight when it is you who chose not to live in base? What does that have to do with the "I got mine attitude" you so boldly suggest MANY of our senior pilots have. If you ask me it is you who has the self serving attitude in this case. Commuting to work is a privilege not a right! Why should an employee and his family be bumped off a flight so a commuter can get to work. Just because you choose to commute doesn't mean that other employees should be inconvenienced by it as well.

Because bases open/close and the flying changes many times over a career. It's ridiculous for the company to punish those who do not move their home/family and leave their friends each time a base opens/closes or the flying changes.

Priority should go to those getting to/from work.

I would agree that for a duration of time after a base closing or downsizing, pilots and FAs should get some sort of non rev priority, but only for a certain time and only for those affected.

The nonrev policy should be blind to why someone is traveling.

capn,

Do you have many friends who make six figures and aren't pilots? I do, and almost every one of them has been transferred multiple times to get where they are today. And when they get transferred....... they move. Our's is the only profession that thinks we're so special we should be able to live in any city in the world, and earn our living in some other city. Then when we can't make it, get special treatment at our employer's expense!

For those who choose to live 1000 miles away from where they work, I'll defend their right to do that. But to give them super boarding priority to get to work, which costs money by bumping paying pax, and ultimately costs ME money, is too much.

And, BTW, I've been told by other former NWA pilots on this board that there won't be a mass exodus to DAL bases because your bases are equally preferable. If so, why do you have so many more commuters?????

Ah spoken from someone who obviously hasn't had to change jobs over six times in the last 6 years and thus would end up having to move every time a new job came up.
There are a number of pilots in MSP that just can't see why anyone would commute either.
