Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Why?? Right now whatever WE negotiate the company costs that as a "me to" for the flight attendants. If they have their union, then they can negotiate stuff for themselves instead of getting stuff we negotiate for nothing. The commuter policy that the North guys had is a good example. If they gave that to the pilots, they most likely would have had to give it to the FA's. With a FA union, the company would give them nothing except what they negotiate making it easier for us to get stuff. I think it would be great to have them unionized.
Not saying throw everything out, just some things out. BTW, I talked to an aviation tax attorney once and he explained how I guess airlines have to deal with the tax issues as they fly through different states. It was down to measuring the time a plane was on the ground in a state by the minute. Not sure if that is true or not but I'll take his word.
I do know however if your corporate jet spends too much time in the state of Florida, and they do absolutely 100% track it especially for turbine equipment, then they'll hit you with their astronomical property taxes.

That said, I think most fNW pilots feel that a FA union would give us a better negotiating position.
Speaking of F/As, my secretary at the AFB wants nothing more than to be a DELTA F/A!!!!

By the way, did anyone else know that the FAs either soon or have now, online jumpseat booking ability? Funny how it came out only a month or two after ours was implemented!

I am not sure if I qualify as an expert on anything but, I maybe as far as reserve. I have never had a problem or even had any sort of a hint at a problem with short call and reserve. I live 90 minutes from LAX without traffic. Called for SC 4 times in 3 years and only once was it a true short call. Even then they stated please do the best you can.
I think many are getting wrapped around the axle about nothing. Be professional polite and realistic and you wont have a problem. Only time I heard of issues is with guys sitting short call in LAS or RNO or PHX while reserve in LAX. That is just not being professional, realistic and when they do call you may not be all that polite...... Bottom line everyone in scheduling has been nothing but professional polite and understanding.....

A very wise post indeed! I live in San Diego and have been on and off reserve at LAX over various times during the last 11 years. I have been on shortcall about 50-60 times over the years and had one honest get here as soon as you can call (to ONT) for a DH to SLC.
Well, with me being recently off probation as a fired up SO I smartly reported for duty in 1+45 thinking "I hope I am not the last one here." The FO shows up at 2+30. At 3+00 the CAPT calls and says he is stuck in traffic and will be there in 45 more minutes. They held the flight and that was that. The earth didn't stop rotating, cats and dogs didn't start living together - as a matter of fact it was a non-event.
That is the last time I ever sweat short call. As long as you are driving and within 125 miles or so you are covered - we can not control the traffic - if you are in another city relying on a flight that is another story entirely and you are living quite dangerously.
