Why?? Right now whatever WE negotiate the company costs that as a "me to" for the flight attendants. If they have their union, then they can negotiate stuff for themselves instead of getting stuff we negotiate for nothing. The commuter policy that the North guys had is a good example. If they gave that to the pilots, they most likely would have had to give it to the FA's. With a FA union, the company would give them nothing except what they negotiate making it easier for us to get stuff. I think it would be great to have them unionized.

I remember once that DAL was the biggest tax payer in some backwoods county in southern Utah for this very reason. The airways took you right over (I believe it was Iron County, but don't quote that) and DAL had the most flights.. I don't know how/if that was ever resolved. But on a more serious note along the same line, I have also heard that England charges out the wazoo (technical term) for airspace services, so AA has flight planning software that circumvents that when possible. Any of you AA lurkers know about this?

I was going to post almost exactly the same thing ... except ... the fNW FA union negotiated a "me-too" clause in their contract. It didn't cover everything (pay being a notable exception), but it did overlap the pilot contract in lots of areas.

That said, I think most fNW pilots feel that a FA union would give us a better negotiating position.

Speaking of F/As, my secretary at the AFB wants nothing more than to be a DELTA F/A!!!!

Now really, I am dead serious here, the young and single pilots would thank me for encouraging this, she is a primo hammer and sweeter than sweet tea.

We need to have a grass roots effort to get her hired.

A solution would be to have a clause that if the FAs get something that we worked for within say, 2 months, that we get some credit or something for it. That way, if they just piggy-back on our efforts we get a "refund" or something.

By the way, did anyone else know that the FAs either soon or have now, online jumpseat booking ability? Funny how it came out only a month or two after ours was implemented!

A very wise post indeed! I live in San Diego and have been on and off reserve at LAX over various times during the last 11 years. I have been on shortcall about 50-60 times over the years and had one honest get here as soon as you can call (to ONT) for a DH to SLC.

Well, with me being recently off probation as a fired up SO I smartly reported for duty in 1+45 thinking "I hope I am not the last one here." The FO shows up at 2+30. At 3+00 the CAPT calls and says he is stuck in traffic and will be there in 45 more minutes. They held the flight and that was that. The earth didn't stop rotating, cats and dogs didn't start living together - as a matter of fact it was a non-event.

That is the last time I ever sweat short call. As long as you are driving and within 125 miles or so you are covered - we can not control the traffic - if you are in another city relying on a flight that is another story entirely and you are living quite dangerously.
