Hummm. If this UAL/CAL thing is announced tomorrow, is there a US major airline pilot group out there that has not been through a merger in the last 10 or so years? I can't think of one. (Except Alaska & SWA.)

Denny,

Yen in Japan ( ATMs located on the way to transportation), Yuan in mainland china, and dollars in Guam/Saipan. Discount at Saipan hotel is 50% for all meals, and I think it's 25% in Guam. Haven't been to mainland China in a while and the Taipei layover was too short to do anything.

While in NRT, you'll need to visit the Jet Lag and the Barge Inn (Sir Richard's pub).

Ferd,

My TOE was great, 3 day that became a 9 day due to the E+15 volcano. Training by the LCA was outstanding and the seeing eye FO helped immensely. Make sure you look at the video on the 757/767 page regarding loading the FMS. I wish I had that before my TOE. Your LCA will show you how. Procedures for the crossing are basically the same as at NWA.

Get the captain to show you the grocery store where you get your wine and cheese for the afternoon get together in the crew lounge.

Back in 2003 when I was with Coex I had two UAL pilots start asking me about what the rumors were on our side (as in CAL) about a merger. I said my oppinion doesn't count and I've got the paycheck to prove it.

So really, its only taken 7 years to get here.

I just think the management folks at Conitnental are going to have a hard time running an airline in Chicago because according to Continental management the reason those airplanes fly, that they're on time, safe, and so on is because of 1600 Smith St in downtown Houston. The front line people don't matter one bit. Its an anti-people airline... but more power to the new pilot blood trying to change things for the better there.

So the thought that an airline could be run somewhere else is going to blow their minds.

I am pretty sure that quickness had little if anything to do with this.. but that "livery" looks as if it was done in a high school art class...

Doesn't matter. It is all rumor anyway.

It will be out in a week.

Thanks Jinks. Where do you get the Yuan? Do you use ATM's or the hotel to exchange?

I was wondering if both were still open. Been to both years ago!!
