If I remember right, NWA A320s flew out of the NRT hub a few years ago, did they get any international training? I don't mean ocean crossing stuff, because I imagine there were only a few planes over there, probably ferried by non-line pilots anyway.

Not to my knowledge. I do know the 757 crews did not receive any; if they did, I must have overslept that day . However, Asia flying is pretty straightforward. European countries seem to like tweeking the ICAO rules just enough to get you in trouble if you don't study up on them.

Honestly, how do American and US Airways view themselves after they have seen four major airlines become two and a lot bigger than them. I know the execs have said there needs to be more consolidation, how much more will we see? Is this just the tip so we see only 4 or 5 airlines in the US (Delta, United, American, SWA)?

Isn't the term "Management Pilot" a oxymoron.

Well not sure who is whizzing in my cheerios, but I am not liking what I see. The fact that the things I discuss are happening and they are not good is not a reason not to try and discuss them or shed some light on them.

As far as Europe it was supposed to be NBA and U2 charters -old news. Hope AA did not get this. We shall see.

Nope, no training for Asia flying except for a BIG RED binder (later replaced with a CD) and a memo about "don't *%ck up".

But, the good news is, most of the Capts who flew out there had been Whale or DC-10 FOs and knew the theater. However, doing the crazy taxi route out to the "B" (east) runway was new to all of us.

Who needs training, just give them a bulliten and they are good to go. If that is not the case then we have 5000 unqualified pilots flying around now.

I was wondering the same thing. This merger leaves DAL, UAL and American as the major players. This might put the heat on for the race for Alaska....
