I think if it auto shuts down and is still on fire, pulling the fire handle probably won't do much... I know they don't pay me enough to run near a burning airplane to pull a handle that may or may not work... that's why they invented fire trucks with water cannons.

I always strive not to come to the attention of anyone in a position of authority. And the "find what you're looking for" sounds somehow ominous.

So, I'm going to say I was refering to only the first third of the curse. "Interesting times" in the airline industry easily qualify as "chaos" anywhere else. I didn't read Dante's Inferno, but I would imagine our little industry probably gets its' own level of hell.

I was wondering about this a couple weeks ago, but your post prompted me to call them. Supposedly it will all convert over this summer when we move to the "new dal plan".

Honestly i thought that had all moved over to Fidelity already so it was nice to find out a had a few K still in my old account. However i'm not excited to know that we're paying mx fees on those accounts while we wait for Delta to allow the transfer to fidelity.

If Delta needs more 76 seat jets they can fly as many as they want with Delta pilots.
I agree with Capn and Reroute. If that was offered then we'd be closer to getting what we want in terms of scope then ever before.

True. Very true. But here is the thing about leaving an APU running and then walking away from the plane, what if something goes wrong and nobody was there? You could go from a contained event to an airplane write off or worse pretty quickly.

And I'm not so sure someone wants to spend time at the big squared off table explaining that they left the APU running that time because they always leave it running. Heck, I'm surprised (but very happy) we even leave the planes powered up on the GPU when we leave. Previously airline would skin you alive if you left a plane powered up and the GPU died and the batteries died, didn't matter if it was a mx base or not. But again, I enjoy doing it.

Default So, what's Joe Biden doing? Watching Ferris?

So, Delta announced "Air Force Two" is in the TOC for a few days. Is this how the administration is keeping Joe Biden out of trouble?

I have been thinking about a few things in regard to our DCI flying. These FFD or Cost Plus contracts are a big money loser for DAL. We have a limit of 255 on 70/76 seat jets. DAL wants to modify these contracts.

So;
Lets say DAL management came to D-ALPA with a proposal to allow a certain number of 76 seat jets. That number could be anything up to the 255 allowable number now. I will not pick a specific number, just up to that number. In return they will cap DCI at 300-400 total aircraft. It is a hard number and cuts DCI in half for allowing at a max 102 more 76 seat jets.

What are your thoughts on this. It is a victory to control scope as well as a concession to allow more 76 seat jets. What do you think of it? My gut is telling me that something like this may be the next paper across the table.
Heyas ACL,

I'm with the others. The economics on the 50 seater are currently so bad that they will attrit themselves. Let them.

But even if they weren't, you CAN'T replace a A320 with 3 RJ200s. You CAN replace it with 1 E170. It's not the lower end of the RJ scale that is doing GROSS damage to the DC9/319 flying. Indirectly yes (and it still needs control), but not the wholesale replacement that the 76 seaters are causing.

For the company to offer the above deal, means that the lower end is in fiscal peril, and they're trying to sell refrigerators in the arctic.

I'll stand at the end of that table with no reservations, and no worries.. If it were not a good idea, and if the safeguards were not in place to shut down the PAU in the event of a fire, then DAL would have us remain in the cockpit until ground power was applied and the APU shut down. This is not the military where we had to post a fire guard until the airplane was completely dead. Boeing and EADS or whoever designed these systems, did so with just such things in mind... walking away from it, and if it burns, it will shut down. I sleep well knowing this. This being said, I do wait maybe a few more minutes than I uesd to in order to give the rampers time to attach ground power/air, but in the interest of fuel savings, and not worries about the APU burning down.
