We just went through one of the worst(if not the worst) economic downturns ever without furloughing. Capacity was drawn down what, 20%? We are now starting to see the Pacific loads pick back up, domestic is running at 85% load factor or higher, and oil is behaving for us right now making our hedges a profitable buy.

So unless this volcano keeps ash in the air for 2 years, I can't see the need to furlough. Maybe if it was less then 200 pilots, but any more then that and I don't think they will get the ROI. Maybe Slow, sailingfun, alfa, or ACL can chime in.

Actually, anybody chime in. That's why I started this conversation.
I agree. It's like a bad snowstorm that causes us to cancel alot of JFK stuff in the winter, it costs alot of money, but once the storm is gone the flights all resume. This will no doubt cost us tons of cash, but when the ash is gone, I don't think they are planning on a pulldown in capacity. They may actually have to add extra segements to get all the people that couldn't fly the last few days to their destinations. Bad for the bottom line this quarter, but don't see it effecting staffing at this point.

Default Do we get 'moving days' when switching bases?

Contract gurus:
I'm getting displaced and I'm scheduled to be on rsv on 4/30 in SLC and 5/1 in MSP. Aside from using PCS to swap rsv days, is there a provision for days off for moving? I'm not quite sure logistically how I'd do that otherwise.

HA! I was just setting the boundaries for the coming year.

150,000 people combined between Tuscaloosa and Auburn for the games, 60K at AUB and 91K at AL.

I still never understood the fake punt nor how a shovel pass becomes a pick 6. And I think Saban and Tubbs and those that coach like them do their fans arteries any favors when they shut down the offense with a lead and let the defense win the game!

As to Auburn, we're going down the juco route. Worked well in 2000 when we got Rudi Johnson, a human bowling ball. We'll see how the 6'6" 250lb qb does. They're hiding him.

Timing IS everything. Captain and I were rerouted on 14th to go home(24/7). We were scheduled to come home from AMS on Friday 16Apr. Our replacements are still there.

It would be fun for a time, 240+ crew members at the hotel and always plenty to do in Amsterdam. But eventually it would get old(and expensive), especially if was at the end of a 12day rotation.

It will just be 2 pilots like on 330. Night flight going down and watch the sunrise during climb out on way back. Turn on CPDLC aural position report prompt on flight down...just in case.

Great layover.

I can't even tell you how ready I am. The big XII championship replay was on last night and I couldn't help but watch and get excited about this season. I'm ready to see how Gilbert our new QB is going to do. Lord knows he shouldve already gotten the "big game pressure" out of the way with his introduction last year. I'm hoping for a rematch

Texas had a good recruitment year also so I'm thinking it should be another great season.

I'm off Thursday night so I'll definitely be watching the draft. I hear Colt Mccoy could end up with the Browns or the rams depending on where Bradford goes. I just hope he gets a spot somewhere where he can be the franchise QB and get the play time.

You need to look at Sec. 6 of the PWA for relocation benefits especially if you were MD'd. Here is the section I think you are looking for. Not sure if it does you much good now because of the time limit specified at the end but you might be able to call your CP and get some relief.

D. Travel Time
1. An eligible pilot will:
a. be released from duty for up to seven days based on the lesser of:
1) one day for each 400 miles or portion thereof between his old residence and his new residence, or
2) one day for each 400 miles or portion thereof between his old base and his new base.
b. receive pay/no credit at a pro rata portion of the ALV for each day off as provided in
Section 6 D. 1. a.

2. In order to be released for relocation, a pilot must make his request to Crew Scheduling at least 15 days prior to the first desired day of travel time.

I know this has the potential to sound like another food fight, but I think I like our way much better. Being junior I would always be stuck with first break on your system, even if it was my leg. Trying to land in high winds and crappy wx in JFK or London with no sleep would not be safe.

One of my favorite quotes BTW. A true Air Force Vet you are. We have to stick together with all these squids and Jar Heads in this company!
Not all of us are mean like Ferd. I'm slightly nicer, on a daylight leg I usually offer the junior guy choice of break. If the junior guy has a currency problem for TO or landing I usually help him out, sometimes by switching breaks, sometimes by keeping breaks but swapping seats at TOC or TOD.

Ferd, that is exactly the problem. We don't have a place to wash our tidy whiteys but we know where the cheap beer and wine is.

I don't know if my liver can take much more of this.

Paris 2010. 5 days going on . . . . . . .
