I read somewhere that NW uses V-bars instead of the crossbars for their flight directors. I wonder if that is part of the realignment cost: modifying the FDs on all the NW 75s to bring them to DL standards?
Oh yeah, they also have to be sure they take out the intercom. We can't have any of that on our airplanes.
(Actually, do the NW birds have intercoms? I have no idea.)

I've flown both (x bars in 141 and 75/76 and v bars in T-1) and I would have to say in my experience it's the opposite. The V bars always seemed to lag more than the X bars. The transition is quite easy though. One could go from one to the other with ease.

Not to turn this thread to a waste of time, but I have flown both X and V and X is much better.

While in training for the 744 a month ago I got a lot of good info about what the plans were for standardization and one of the main items was converting all of the NWA to the X hair FD. Having flown both types I personally much prefer the X hairs to the V bars....

I was on the 757 before and rode j/s upfront on a bunch of Widget 757's this past summer:
1. Yes the former NW 75's have v-bars...I was told it's a minor software change to get them to the +'s
2. All the NW 75's have intercom..it must have cost extra to take them out.
3. We basically have three different cockpit configs; 757-5500's, 757-5600's and 757-5800's (-300 Heavy)..
some have HF, some have HF datalink, some have Satphone, some have printers, some have the MCDU...none have it all.
I was, however, pretty impressed that the way we operate the 757 is so remarkably similar to Delta as it is...IMO it will be a short changever...mostly callouts, checklists, etc. Somewhat symbolic of the differences between the two pilot groups, hopefully.
A few of differences were already being eliminated with updated procedures.
And I hope I get back on it before SOC...or sooner..

Looking forward to Detroit.

I really don't know why people still think that the DC-9 is going away with oil prices where they are.

FWIW, there is another website, say First Pictures: Delta B747-400 Civil Aviation Forum | Airliners.net and they're showing pictures of the new Delta 747 paint job.

There's really no arguing this. During our recent AE, a bunch of CVG 73N guys/gals were sent packing because their spots were taken by CVG 767 pilots that couldn't hold CVG7ER and didn't want to move out of their base. Those 73 pilots were forced out to less desirable spots, ie, JFK maddogs. It is what it is, and I'm not arguing it's fairness. Just pointing out that this is what will happen on a grand scale after the SOC and airplanes start moving around.
