Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Yeppers, and it does appear that their private investment first is looking to sell a few things and raise capital. Time will tell I guess.
A couple of questions. I asked earlier if anyone knows how many, if any, PIRP pilots there are left......still wondering.
Also, if I remember correctly from the updates at the LCA meeting that were posted, RA said all the 757/767's (about 25?) that are in the desert are coming back to the line. What, approximately, would be the date when all of these would be back? Seems like we would need quite a few bodies to cover this as well as additional 90 flying. WOOHOO!

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Online booking agent Priceline.com said Wednesday average airfare this summer could rise by as much as 25% from a year-ago as fliers fight over fewer seats among the nation's airlines. "Airline capacity and routes flown are still down compared to recent years," said Mark Koehler, Priceline's Senior Vice President, Air. "We haven't experienced the widespread, aggressive airfare sales seen a year ago." Airlines have reported stronger monthly traffic and revenue results year to date as business travelers return to the sky after nearly two years of withering demand. The International Air Transport Association recently halved its full-year loss for the industry to $2.8 billion..

Saves more gas? Are they kidding? Maybe they should worry about some simple things first. I was on the ramp in MCO a couple of weeks ago. I was doing my walk around and saw three Airbuses with their APU's running and they all had air and power hooked up. I talked to one of the rampers and asked him if the DAL-N planes ever shut their APU's down. He said it's very rare and very annoying. They go through all the trouble to hook up the power and air and the crews never shut the APU's down. I also take Airbuses home all the time, and I have yet to see the crews do a single engine taxi. I know it's going to take some time to switch mindsets and habits, but it just seems like common sense to save fuel. Oh well...
In regards to the SE taxi, you have to remember that NWA had SE taxi weight limitations. A lot of guys have a hard time forgetting that we no longer have these limitations, & out of pure habit just start both. If I feel we are light enough I'll ask if the CA would like to SE taxi. Our max break away thrust is the top of out N1 boxes, & that's about 30%. It's often not enough to get an average weight aircraft going, certainly not a full A320.
I always try to save gas with higher altitudes(so long as winds aren't too strong) delayed descents, SE Taxis, etc and it'll usually works. I hope in time we have more DAL N guys doing SE taxi, but it's not always feasible
A friend of mine said this thread is still going! I had to check it out. Holy Crap, that's awesome! I just got back from a "ground job" rotation to Kandahar AB. Starting back at Delta this week. I'm displacing back to the 88. Looking forward to being a lineholder. As a commuter, I have decided to chase quality of life.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Cheers!

Cycle,
On the DC-9's, when it's hot, not only do we taxi on two engines, we don't shut the APU down until we are taking the runway. Not only don't we shut the APU off at the gate with external power and air, we put little shades up to keep the sunlight out. It gets hot. Really hot. To the point where I have had to delay boarding until it cooled down (30-45 minutes later). If it's not hot though, we shut the APU down when we get connected.
As for the Bus, I think that thing makes a booger of a noise when it's running on one engine. But, you will have to ask those guys. I don't understand French.
But, I wonder why you say it's going to take some time to switch mindsets? I also wonder why you imply that those guys aren't using common sense? I hope I explained the reasoning on the 9 well enough. Its hot!

It's been hammered into me to save fuel since I was at Skywest. Delta also hammers us on saving fuel. It's almost like a challenge to see if you can have the APU come on line just as the Captain sets the brake at the gate. After working so hard to save gas, it's frustrating seeing DAL-N aircraft not doing the same thing. I don't understand the operational reasons why you wouldn't shut an APU down when you have good air and power hooked up on a mild temp day. Or why you wouldn't taxi single engine when you have a 20 minute long taxi in LGA or MSP. My only conclusion is that there's just a different mindset and the DAL-N crews weren't hammered on saving gas. That's why I'm bringing this up. Maybe things will change as the crews integrate more and we become "mixed nuts." It's hard to change after you've been doing something the same way for a long time.
Guard Dude: Thanks for eating the tough duty. Welcome home and God bless you and your family.
I always shut the APU off as soon as I can, but keep this in mind.....just because the GPU cord is plugged in does not mean the power is good. Often times it's not hooked up correctly, & the rampers don't even confirm it's good. They just plug it in & run off, or the GPU isn't providing good power so we can't turn it on. I make radio calls to get it fixed, or maybe go down to the ramp and ask them to mess with it but it doesn't always fix the problem. Also, in your example it's possible that those 3 Airbus were all w/in 10 mins of departure. I'm not saying that guys don't leave them running, I've seen it & feel frustration too but lots of guys do get them off.

I'm glad you're doing your part to save gas. Hopefully, oil prices stay where they're at, although I'm not holding my breath!
