I talked to one of the rampers and asked him if the DAL-N planes ever shut their APU's down. He said it's very rare and very annoying. They go through all the trouble to hook up the power and air and the crews never shut the APU's down. I also take Airbuses home all the time, and I have yet to see the crews do a single engine taxi. I know it's going to take some time to switch mindsets and habits, but it just seems like common sense to save fuel. Oh well...

Cycle,

On the DC-9's, when it's hot, not only do we taxi on two engines, we don't shut the APU down until we are taking the runway. Not only don't we shut the APU off at the gate with external power and air, we put little shades up to keep the sunlight out. It gets hot. Really hot. To the point where I have had to delay boarding until it cooled down (30-45 minutes later). If it's not hot though, we shut the APU down when we get connected.

As for the Bus, I think that thing makes a booger of a noise when it's running on one engine. But, you will have to ask those guys. I don't understand French.

But, I wonder why you say it's going to take some time to switch mindsets? I also wonder why you imply that those guys aren't using common sense? I hope I explained the reasoning on the 9 well enough. Its hot!

The cool, calm, collected, and the deaf, Denny Crane! I bet that makes for a pretty laid back soon to be SEA based 7er captain.

Delta Air Lines Inc. wants U.S. and Brazilian government approval to code-share with Latin American low-cost giant GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes.

Delta (NYSE: DAL) wants to code share on more than 45 GOL (NYSE: DAL) flights from Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo to other Brazilian destinations, as well as two GOL flights between Brazil and Paraguay and Uruguay.

Beginning in June, registered frequent fliers from both airlines would earn miles on both GOL's SMILES and Delta's SkyMiles programs on eligible flights. Mile redemption would begin in fall.

Delta already has routes between Atlanta and Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Fortaleza, and Manaus; between New York and Sao Paulo; and between Los Angeles and Sao Paulo.

Now all we need is more route authorities to flow customers that way. Wonder were we can get those......

Somewhere I was reading the new obligations you have to get a Federal student loan for med school and I think on top of paying back the loan in full you have 6 years of indentured service or something plus you don't pick your field. I'm not sure, I'll go look it up...

I get a 2fer with this, not only does it "work at work" but at home as well!!

I suspect I'm conversing with another laid back, not a whole bothers you kinda guy!

As far as the SEA stuff, one can only hope but I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch yet. I know there are ALOT of guys senior to me that live in the PNW who will bid it too. (Waves, you are feeling sleeeeepy.................you do not want to bid SEA................... tooooo much cloudy, rainy weather............) My advantage is, I don't care if I'm the plug, I live 25 min from the airport parking lot! At the very least I should move up the list in LAX.
