I know its not a big deal but its not "best practices" in my book. Empower the FO to do his job and hold him accountable.

with that logic you could argue that we should just hire better captains and get rid of FO's all together. I mean IF the Captain was worth his/her salt you wouldnt need an FO

I dont really care either way

Just messin with ya buzz

If you north guys were worth your salt, you wouldnt be asking for 2 copies of the release.

Now, as I understand it, if we do it by the book, the tug driver is supposed to say "Brakes set for chock removal" every time. (although that's not happening at most F-DAL stations) and if a chock is stuck they then have to follow the brakes set thing with a request to release brakes.

Whatever. No big deal. Its just an extra step. I don't really have any heartburn with it since it promotes more awareness I guess.
Personally, I don't care what we do and if it changes it will be just one more change. It is funny though, because it is the same at the F-NWA stations where a high percentage of the time, the chocks were already removed before the FO even did the walk around.

Personally, I think it has more to do with the northern stations during the winter. Slippery ramps and gusty winds. Now we keep the brakes set on windy/icy days all the time, but my guess would be that it is a carry over from past history and keeping it as safe as possible for the ground guys.

I am surprised that anyone from the south would have heartburn if it is due to liability concerns, I mean, isn't that why the checklists are straight from Boeing (at least that is the rumor that I hear on the line).

We even had the FO "verify" because we have had guy's call them "off" and they weren't off. No biggie.

Things have turned 180 degrees over two issues.

1.) "Brakes set. Pressure normal." &
2.) Both pilots responding to the shutdown check(list).

For the record, I take none of the disparaging remarks against these or any other former NWA procedure as a slight. Fire away guys. I like it and I will admit that a lot of the stuff NWA did was in response to getting bitten in the butt previously. Since we are all going through changes, I think it's best to do things, even though they might seem to be overkill, to make sure we don't screw up. It's easy to do with the amount of changes coming our way. Be safe out there.

Dang, you get crayons. I need to go to DTW. Most captains just make me sit and clap my hands.......so that they know I am not touching anything.

Hey! How did you know it was me??

What's funny is on the first leg when I hand him/her the second release, they act like I got them a Christmas present. I think each and every time the response has been, "Wow. Thanks."

For what it is worth, RA wants cash now for the 787 delays and fully expects a 787-900? and A350 fly-off in the future
