Seriously folks....we need to slow down the rate and volume of posts on this thread. I (and I'll bet many others) don't have enough time to keep up without checking it 3 or 4 times a day to keep it manageable. If it wasn't like crack, I could walk away, but I confess I am addicted. Sheesh! Throttle back already!
Okay, I'm going to go bump Sinks threads that were created to help categorize things. Its not a L&G replacement by any means but rather a way that we could reference the PWA and best practices. Those posts fwiw were started in the wake of January-February 2010 discussions.

So look back under the Major section of the forum and I'll bump them up in a moment. If you want to discuss 1.5X vs GS then I think we should get it in there instead of having that discussion being lost in 35,000 posts.

BTW, I looked to see when the first times the words "merger" came up for NWA-DAL in this thread but best I can tell we must have had a seperate thread running and L&G stayed true to hiring news.

Addition: I only check this forum once a day and am sometimes overwhelmed at the number of posts in 24 hours. A lot has been posted between this response from a post 5 or 6 pages earlier not realizing how much had transpired. Sorry if it is a little out of place here.

Do you know how to tell the difference between and old Airbus pilot and a new Airbus pilot?.......The new Airbus pilot is always saying, "What's it doing now?" and the old Airbus pilot is always saying, "There it goes again!"
Autothrust system is a hoot!!!!!! First approach and landing was a high energy slam dunk into MSP.... The airplane kept calling me a "Retard" at around 20 feet, then as we taxied clear I believe it said,"Hey, welcome to the Bus!" Then it snickered!

Took 4 weeks in training to get a handle on the Autothrust..... Wow!

And yes...... having to learn fNWA MGL system in training has given me an new appreciation for all the changes the North side has been through. As I was reading about using AWABs on the Bus for today's final leg of OE, I felt like I had just returned back home.

Thanks for the the Welcome!

The Lion avatar is back.

So Tomcat, if you've got time elaborate for the FDALS on your new appreciation since you're one of the first FDALS guys to go to a FNWA only aircraft.

Does that make any sense?

If it does, I think this could be very informative for all of us. A lot is riding on your shoulders...

Kramer : Tomcat, lift your nose, straighten your wings. You're
coming in too fast, watch your speed.

MCrosky : He's coming right at us . . . ( jumps through a window )

Kramer : You're coming in too hot. Ease up on the throttle.
Watch for that crosswind. Aim for the numbers, you'll
have to dip your left wing. You're drifting, keep your
eyes on the far end of the runway. You're too low
damnit! Watch your stall speed. Ease her down, down.
The break . . . pull the red handle.

Rumack : I just want to tell you both good luck, we're all
counting on you.

As I said, everyone made the change fairly easy as far as people were concerned.... Having said that, I felt like I had gone to work at a new airline (new to me) at first. Even had a Delta South jump seater ask me that while at cruise, "Hey, Do you feel like you just started as a new hire?". Some philosophical differences in the fleet, and just different mindset from being on Boeing products for several years.

Big change for me was the fact that I had to learn fNWA weight and balance/flight plan and acars system knowing that in 5 weeks I would change back. To be honest, my first reaction was this is stupid that I have to learn this new system, but I embraced it and realized it was probably a good thing as I would have a better understanding of what the fNWA guy have been through (and they have done a lot of changing for this merger).

As a side note..... every pilot I run into describes himself/herself as either Delta/Delta South/Delta North with the greenbook/redbook thing also. The flight attendants still refer to themselves as NorthWest. What does that mean? I think we as a pilot group deserve a lot of credit, because we have embraced this merger for the most part. We all have some issues with it, but most of us realize that's largely behind us and we looking forward to making this a successful venture.

That's my 2 cents.

LAST-Change is Hard!!!!!!

TC

Oh... And thank you to the Delta North Captain I went through initial training with to help me adapting to the bus and the minor differences of a North fleet.

One of the best nuggets of knowledge i was given on OE was, In MEM if you like BBQ. Go to interstate and ask for a 1/2 lb of your choice of meat. Its only about 4 bucks as opposed 8 bucks for the sandwich. Basically your saving 4 bucks the only difference is you're not getting the bun or cole slaw. You cant beat that deal

Sounds like Airbus OE....

I asked the LCA if he had connections....

-High energy visual approach
-landing at max crosswind
-single engine taxi
-3 runway changes before takeoff
-high density altitude airport
-max weight takeoff & departure
-gusty winds
-first day aircraft was 50 minutes late from maint hangar for and early morning with a 3 leg day and 40 minute turns

Really perfect OE, but man I been busy.....
