[quote=Waves;793768]acl, I'm not trying to be divisive. A lot of these guys are harboring some pretty hostile feeling about getting shafted. I am trying to better understand it. I have ceased being aggresive on the issue and just hope to get a handle on it and figure out why. If we all understand these issues, it will help us better understand each other and where we are all ultimately headed.
It all comes down to what each pilot group believes is fair. NWA wanted DOH, Delta got relative percentage. I was hired in 85 and now have 89 hires ahead of me. Most likely younger guys that will retire after me. What is so hard to understand about that. If the SLI went the DOH method you would be truly steaming. We are trying to put this behind us. Not cool when you keep bringing up the seniority list.

NewK.............great post, wish I could still write that well!
I had responded to a post from TSquare that I pulled down because it wasn't nearly as well written.
I think we jump on each other due to our own frustrations with the merger itself. NONE of us wanted this merger, but here we are, (and overall, I agree it's working out to be a good thing). I know personally (my move for family reasons) and professionally this has been the year from hell. Somewhere along the line I just got "transitioned out". EVERYTHING pi$$ed me off and I did start taking it out on a few guys on here.....and why I had to just get away for awhile. Case in point, I had to start, turn off and restart the AWABS and Flight Planning stuff about 4 or 5 times before I was able to get it done. Add to that PBS, AEs, voice response passwords etc. My fault and like I said, I was starting to make it other people's fault.
It's time we all lightened up somewhat, and that starts with me.

Very nice post. I understand your frustration with all the changes. Changing procedures you have used for years let alone PBS, the AE system etc. would have overwhelmed me. In my case, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks!! All I can say is I'm very thankful that I didn't have to go thru what you guys did. I'm used to "drinking from the firehose" for about 2 weeks at a time not for a year! Too use a flying analogy............I'd still be a 100 miles behind the airplane!!

Yesterday while flying out of Atlanta, I have to say my uneasiness about becoming a reluctant transcon commuter was realized in a big way. Captain of the flight had a hall from A1 gate to E1 gate for a 46 minute turn and although I had everything ready to go the gate agent would not allow 9 passengers and 3 non-revs on to the aircraft because it was with in 5 minutes of departure. The big deal was that one of the people waiting for the gate agent to come to his senses was the Captain of the flight!
All in all when the gate agent decided to listen for just a moment everyone was boarded and we left only 7 minutes late.
So I ask all of my flying peers to help out all of us employees, pilots commuting, employee families taking that one vacation together or for crying out loud the passenger paying our salaries, by checking with the gate and even walking the boarding area to see if anyone will be left behind because of the OT zero debacle (and gate agents feeling they control the jumpseat). I know we cant always get everyone on but sometimes the guy with 4 stripes or even 3 stripes can do a lot to get everyone on board.
Sorry to rant but asking for help from the guys and gals flying the line seems to be better than having high blood pressure and being angry....
Thanks again for looking out for one another especially when more than a few of us are now forced to commute......
BTW we did make phone calls about this particular incident and it met with less than confident results. But we are not done making calls either..
Thanks

I was dead heading one time and just arrived at the gate about 10 minutes prior to pushback. The agent said, "This flight is closed out." He thought I was nonreving so he wasn't going to lift a finger to get me aboard. I said to the agent, "You know what, I didn't really want to do that flight anyway. I'm sure scheduling will be able to find another Captain somewhere else. I'll just head back home. Have a nice day." All of a sudden he realized I was deadheading not nonreving, and miraculously the door was reopened.

Waves,
Ill take a stab at the pay thingie. It will be overly simplistic, but I'm overly simplistic.
Keenster is a whale guy so his hours are, in general, the same from month to month (low but somewhat consistent) where yours and mine are probably a lot alike.
The two premerger airlines manned differently, which makes comparisons difficult. NWA manned by block hour vs Delta manned by jet. If I knew any more than that I've forgotten......great memory, it's just real short.
Both airlines carried a minimum number of guys to cover basically winter then got used to guys flying overtime in the summer. You did it with GS and rolling thunder (I still don't know what that is), we did it with a flex up months. It's like ALV but different.....shoot I don't even remember what it was called.
But, for example, in the winter I would normally fly 73 to 75 hours. In the summer I'd fly 85 and I can remember flying 88 after bankruptcy (scheduled not picked up, modified or BOBed). In fact, even up to Bid period 5 for us 757 guys, the Asia trips were 14 day 83-85 hour trips.
So as you can see, the arbitrators were wrong. I flew straight time for 7 or 8 hours a month and the rest would be built so most guys were flying 1.5 over 80.
Just a different way of skinning the cat. Oh, and we also had your version of the green slip. Super premium dog **** trips that were unsellable that went for 2x......never did one. In fact I refused to commute to high time, too much like tempting fate. Plus, I thought picking up high time with guys on furlough was immoral.
Dont know if that helps

Godfathers on Saipan, my favorite spot in the whole system, including AMS....but I understand I need to see Sal Palo.
YouTube - GODFATHERS I LOVE THIS BAR - DUMB ASS EDIT
That's the owner who walks in right at the end. Also, I've never seen anyone with a cowboy hat....guess they did that for the video. But, I did recognize several of the old expats I know from happy hour.

Having said that though, I am rethinking the GS versus the 1.5X method of overtime pay. It may be a better mouse trap.
