Acl, did you know that it would have cost The Man less to fund our pensions than to prostitute them to the PBGC? A very intelligent and financial savy 767 CA friend of mine crunched the numbers. It was a close call, but he had all the numbers. It was most disturbing to see those numbers knowing that The Man had sold us out. I will never forget or forgive them for this.

KC-10 the Russians feel duped as they spent billions to get Kyrgyzstan to kick the us out. We retorted with more money and it is now the Manas Transit Center and no longer an "Air base." In effect the Russians paid billions for a name change. Yep, they are behind this.

Weren't there more vacancies than displacements on the last AE (the Dec 09 one) too? I know they didn't fill all of some categories and changed training for others in that AE.

Actually, ACC is not a bad trip. I did a bunch when I was ER in NYC and enjoyed them. They're high time, radar and ILS, people are friendly, food and beer at the hotel are cheap, descent restaurants outside the hotel. It's really not bad.

BAHA = Bank Angle... HEADING! Angle? Heading Angle. I don't remember?
LAVS = works on the 88 if you make it Lateral Mode, Altitudes, V/S, and Speed. But I think we're supposed to use MAAAAAP.
AVE FAME (Avenue of Fame) = During lost comm then when it comes to your heading fly the last Assigned, last Vector, last told to Expect, last Filed, and for altitude fly the highest of the last Assigned, MEA or told to expect. [My instructor taught me that one 15 years ago when I got my instrument, go Ralph!]
Silliest one of all but it works...8 for 84 = Eight items on the cruise check, 1-tune NAV, 2-bank angle, determine min speed, 3-check the N1 is between 76-84 (hence 84), 4-weather radar check, 5-CL power, 6-fuel (update and balance), 7-FMS update fuel and cost index and 8-make sure ACARS is working or pull out the engine log.

If your friends initials are MS, he is totally clueless, and his math is completely upside down. Your statement is grossly inaccurate as well. This myth has been perpetuated, but there's no truth to it. Trust me. The PBGC is not stupid, and they didn't want a $3B underfunded pension plan, even if they got some blood money to take it.
