Also, I'm not going back to the military. Sorry. Maybe you should move on?
Sad thing is... he is spot on, but since we are basically handcuffed by everything from a retarded government to the RLA, we will never get back to where it once was.

Cut the man some slack. At least he properly used the word LOSE.

MCO was a express only base that was only open for a few years. DFW is the only large base that has been closed. DFW also had a large number of pilots flying out of there commuting to other bases even before it closed so there are a large number of commuting pilots from that area.

T;
You deleted your post. Instead of copying it in I will just reply.

The difference is that when a company moves an employee in the 100K+ a year income range the move is paid for, the house is either bought, or housing is provided until it is sold, etc. Our moving benefits are contractual, and due to their limits people opt not to move.

If we want more pilots moving to their bases every few years, these types of things need to be done. I know that my wife's company offered three weeks of vacation, fully paid move with no weight limit, Realtor's fees, utility fees, house bought at loan price or market price, whichever was higher, and housing in the interim.
This is not a corporate executive move. This is a move for someone that is in the 100K range that is relocating with the SAME company.

Of course we opted not to move since I would be commuting, but that was their offer. Saying that people move all of the time for 100K+ a year jobs is true when the moves are paid for. Saying they do it with out a paid move is not so true, they only do that when they are relocating to a new job. Also FWIW, I know many ppl that work outside of this industry that commute for work. Many are on our jets, and their tickets are paid for by their company. Some even make less than 100K a year.

(I understand that with 12000 pilots and 20,000 FA's that is not totally realistic, my point is that there are other options and companies make these types of arrangements all of the time)

Don't you get it... we will rarely.. if EVER see a real position of strength. Every economic cycle will elicit cries of poormouth from the company and a push for mid-contract concessions. The companies have broken the code. As long as we have the handcuffs that keep us from the picket line, there are no teeth in the tiger. Sad, I know.. and defeatest.. but I see the reality of where we are. I have 15 years left, and I will wager we will NEVER see the payrates we had in C2K.. nevermind adjusted for inflation. At least the beer in Bogota is cheap.

Ah T, I think you are incorrect. Eternal optimist maybe, but there is only one way to find out!

I agree we need to lobby DC for a time limit on NMB contract talks. 12-18 months no more.

My appologies to Scoop, KC and the rest of you guys. I sometimes get preachy and long winded when I haven't taken my FAA approved depression medication. (tongue in cheek) I'm much better this morning.
