Am I missing something here???? I havent heard the "F" word being thrown around but a lot of people seem to think it's going to happen.......why?

Also why worry about something we cant control? This coming from a pessimist. If we get furloughed, we get furloughed. I wouldn't like it obviously but we cant control it.

Are the Shuttle E175s under the max weight limit in the new contract. I thought the only E175s allowed were the Compass one's grandfathered in.
No. The cap on the 76 seat jets was 86,000 lbs, which the EMB175LR's (including Shuttle's and Compass' jets) fall under (85517lbs). There's also a cutout for 36 Compass' aircraft of up to 89,000 lbs; that's because our fleet is supposedly being converted to EMB175AR's (paper change only) which have a MGTOW a little over 86k lbs.

They said they are not yet available at a reasonable price so they are using the DC9s and MD88s and augment the flight ops with CRJ900s and E-175s. Both CRJ900s and E-175s should all be flying at the mainline.
Whats wrong with the E190? I always wondered how the Shuttle Ops did for DL because I know its not always completely full. But I never thought I would see the entire operation go to DCI. Is US Airways making similar changes?

The Shuttle historically made money. Many people are taking the high speed train to D.C. now so I'm not sure what the profit on the routes are. I do know that regardless of the profit, the Shuttle has been important to us because the executives and lawyers that use that service are also the same ones paying full Business Elite fares when they go abroad. It keeps there loyalty with us.

I have also heard that these aircraft may be used to go head to head with Air Tran on routes that we currently use RJs. The F word will be contingent on the block hours for next summer and fall. If those drop dramatically, then yes I would think it could be a possibility. If the hours don't drop then we may be doing tit-for-tat on the Shuttle. The Shuttle birds are replacing the 900s going on Air Tran routes. If that happens then its not necessarily a loss of pilot positions. That said, I used the Shuttle a lot back in my NYC commuter days and hate to see it go.

It was sorta made official when they painted all the Shuttle aircraft into the new paint with no Shuttle on them and put first class seats back in them. Didn't take a genius to see that something was changing. Are the E-175's gonna be all coach or are they gonna have a first class section?

I'm at Compass, at about #100 on a 330 pilot list. It would take 230 furloughs out of 12k+ pilots at new Delta to put me on the street. To think that a newly merged carrier with some old planes that may get parked wouldn't furlough 2% of their pilots in an economy like this is pretty naiive, IMHO. I'm not "worried" about that which I can't control, but I am planning for it. To do otherwise would be foolish and irresponsible.

Well I'm one Delta guy who won't commute to fly for Compass or Mesaba. You don't have to worry about me taking a slot from ya. I lived through the CAL/XJT flowback and would rather find another trade to support myself if I get furloughed.
