Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Regarding re-engineering the DC-9s:
It is entirely doable. In the 90's, NWA was searching for a DC-9 replacement. What they found was that with all the in-house technical knowledge, they could essentially re-manufacture the aircraft....strip it down to the frame and put it back together with some improvements and a new interior for between 1 and 1.5 million dollars. Gas was cheap, so there wasn't any point in re-engineing, and JT8s were cheap and plentiful.
20 years later, the DC-9 is STILL a great aircraft. Sturdy, simple, capable.
But to re-engine it, you would need to address the aft-bulkhead mod. In the past, it was cost prohibitive to make this mod. But given the cost of a replacement, not to mention all the stuff that goes with it: Spooling up a new program, sims, training, parts, etc...putting the DC-9 into service for another 20 years starts to make financial sense.

From what they say, you simply get a lower fuel burn from remaking the reverser into an ejector. I read somewhere but can't quote it but they called it a passive bypass.
I don't know if there is a big market for modifying the 9s but we've got planes that could use it and make it worth while and we could keep at least the -50s flying for longer than the estimated 5 years that has been bandied about and hopefully if the cycles allow then also the 30/40s. Hell, I wonder how this works on the 732?!?
I wish Knew was here to read that.
FWIW, they are calling for $3+/gal this summer for regular car gas. Its on the way back up.
BUT IF WE DON'T modify them and this mod becomes available for the 9 then I sure hope Delta goes out to the desert and slices every parked 9 and 732 in half. That lesson should've been learned 20 years ago, slice them or watch someone else fly them against you.

On the iphone commercial and then Sesame St. We love the later, my wife cna sing it nearly in full.
1, 2, 3, 4 chickens back from the shore, 1, 2, 3, 4 penguins there were by the door, bah, bah bah...
sigh, back to the chainsaw. Thank goodness for the iphone and pandora while I work, political talk intermixed with black crowes and dwight yoakam stations, can't beat it.

As far as the stock goes, I would think the only thing they will automatically move us out of is any old mutual funds that are no longer offered in the new core lineup. I can't imagine they will automatically move our stock into a core fund.

Instead of throwing blanket statements out there about his scheduling committee work why don't you give some specific examples of where you feel is has done a poor job. I have only seen outstanding work and the amount of money he has made this pilot group in dealing with the company on contract issues is well into the millions. He personally accounted for at least 5 percent of my income last year. What is more amazing is that he has accomplished this without having to file a grievance every day. He goes into any meetings with the company incredibly well prepared and leaves them with little option other then see things his way.

Just to be clear the comments about his scheduling work were not mine they were CVG767A. I honestly don't know Scrappy and was looking for an opinion.
Looking at your response and the shot about grievances I am assuming you believe me to be some bitter fNWA guy. Sorry to disappoint you but not all of us (on either side) are malcontents. If I misunderstood the meaning my apologies. The thread about KW on the ALPA board has way too many people on both sides fired up. Fortunately I am not one of them.
Now if you we could get back to the question....

It would be a good thing to KNOW if we(the all inclusive we) need to sell it before the transition so WE can pick the timing. That was my point in asking the question.

If that thrust reverser mod works on the 9 then I don't think you'd have to do anything to it other than put it on. Maybe one of you engineers can chime in but I'd imagine that the engine limitations stay the same and no other mod is required to the planes or simulator or anything else. I hope.

The issue is the aft bulkhead replacement or whatever that has to be done at a certain amount of cycles in a DC-9's life... doing the mx on that is traditionally considered to be cost prohibitive.
Let's see if the nine-osaurus can avoid extinction... anyone seen a meteor around here?

I sure am glad that you are in a group that was big enough to worry about and that you got 5% more on your W-2 because of this guy. However, if he had anything to do with the 747 group ( which I have been told is a small sub group and not worth worrying about), I am not happy with his attention to our problems. I can say the reverse in that our schs went down hill and I made less pay and had less quality of life. Now here comes the argument of downsizing. Well Most every fleet downsized either in aircraft or hours flown. All I am saying is that it took a month of Schedules not working well(25-30%) more guys on reserve than normal with huge amounts of open time before they addressed rotation construction. We were begging for months for help. No increaase in flying, no increase in airframes, but shazam better rotation mix for April. What is so hard to keep the same mix of trip lengths i.e. 25% short 50% medium and 25% Long. That is pretty simple. Not sure who corrected the problem company or union. Probably company because they saw the huge problem of tons of open time and twice as many guys on reserve.
But being in such a small subgroup pay no attention to this post. And if Scrappy had nothing to do with this( I don't know) my apologies.
