I hear ya. We seem to be quite full as of late. Hope we get some pricing power with the capacity constraint going forward.

New rules would require additional pilots if current flight schedules remained unchanged. There may not be money to do this: you'd be demanding that the same unprofitable airlines do the exact same amount of (unprofitable) flying with even more pilots.

I doubt airlines would dump hundreds of routes just to keep staffing levels the same. But it's unrealistic to expect them to react by hiring thousands (tens of thousands?) of pilots just to comply with new rules.

At best (from a pilot perspective), there would be some hiring, and some route cutting.

Jackets in ATL, in or out right now? I know March 1st you can go to summer uniform and I know you should see where you're flying before you toss the coat, but what are most guys in the ATL doing? Half and half?

CPDLC isn't a golden BB cure all, it does save some radio calls, but by no means is it a crutch. It is the next gen of the wpr mostly, but it helps a lot with company comm too. It is also used over land, the russians love it and use every facet of its capability. I'll tell you what rocks is the electronic checklist. Love at first sight especially helpful during abnormals - now thats a crutch.

Hey ER guys, do all of the TWA birds now have GPS and updated boxes? I hated taxing out and deleting the "CHECK FUEL" FMS message or whatever it said because you couldn't put SC's in the box and I always thought it was funny to fly a track with 0 offset and watch everyone pass you to the left. All you could say is "that ain't right..." and go back to whatever you were doing to keep yourself occupied like shaking your half empty water bottle until the other guy couldn't stand it and he'd call Helga and get a pee break.

Basically he said post 911, they were able to steal a lot of leisue=re pax from DAL. Post bankruptcy organization, DAL came back leaner and more competitive and was taking back the lost pax. Bottom line air tran doesn't see the greenest pastures in ATL and are looking elsewhere.

Point take and respected. We are ued to doing things a little different not much but a little. Give us a little break. Not right or wrong just where we are coming from. Besides we are talking paper here and procedures. I cross off every waypoint off my release and check the next position etc. Some of us do do a litle more than the minimum required to do the job. Not saying that anyone is not doing their job, just that some do a little more than required. Who do you want to fly with the min guy or the guy who does a little extra to get the job done without wondering if you have done something wrong or might be called in on the carpet for doing something wrong. I have made a few saves in my day because I had the right info right there in front of me. If it was not there, I could have not made the corrections or called the person next to me on his mistake. Happens maybe a few times in one's career. Better to error on the side of saftey than ignorance. I must say that the DAL way tends to put a lot of faith in one person i.e. reading the check list and responding to the checklist all depending on one person. Ask your self how many times you have just read those items and maybe not looked at the switch position????? As opposed to challenge and respond to the ohter guy to answer and both check the position of the switch??????? We had the flaps crash in DTW related to this kind of thinking. You can never be to safe and you can never operate on the side of the other guy has it covered. Yes you need to trust your coworker but confirmation will save your buns. We all want to operate the most safe and efficient airline in the world and want to kick A-- on the other guys. Where is management on this in terms of motivation. Enough of this rant. Later.
