You south guys have no idea how much simpler it can be to get an airplane out of the chocks and into the air. I'll leave it at that. It is what it is.

For the guys who have not yet had the pleasure, you will stumble through it. The biggest inconvenience is the one piece of paper thing. You will not have any info in front of you. That's workable, but it also means you do not have a piece of paper to write on (like taxi instructions, new clearances, etc). You either need to buy a pad of paper to carry in your bag or remember to grab some off the printer on your way down the jetway.

Learning curve = huge.
Seriously?

North paperwork includes 3 releases, one per pilot and one to leave signed with the agent. Most guys clip the release to their window (I personally use my trusty Sporty's kneeboard :-) and use it for scratch, plus you have all your flight plan/fuel/etc right in front of you rather than constantly playing "can I see the release for a second"?

Maybe this could be a best practice that we could adopt from nwa. How hard would it be for dispatch to change the program to dupe off an extra copy?
Seriously? Is it really an inconvenience to reach down on the pedestal and pick up the flight plan to look for whatever information you need? Did you NWA guys play "I've got a secret" in the cockpit??? I mean good grief. I sincerely hope this is all you have to complain about, because IMO this is about as much of a non-issue as I have seen on here in quite some time.

Not to mention the fact that wherever it is located in the cockpit, it is NEVER more than about 6 feet away from you. sheeeesh

All this is really a DC-9 issue, mainly because it's a note intensive airplane. With no FMS most guys pull out the map and write down the route on the release. Also with AWABs, we have no printer so the WDR update comes across as a bunch of seperate, hard to read free text ACARs messages. Is it a huge deal? No. Is it a big change? Yes. On a non FMS airplane there's a lot to write down especially since we now have to compute our takeoff power manually, and I'm used to having a copy of the flight release (Which in fNwa speak is a one page summary of route, fuel,MELs, and alternate information) to write on. We will get over it and start bringing bigger pieces of scratch paper. It's just a little frustrating when you have two guys stumbling through a totally new system with almost zero instruction for us and absolutely zero instruction for the fNWA agents who have no idea what FPS, WDR, or AWABs is.

Quick PBS question. IS there any look back to the month before? Reserve conditions say I need 3 days on call as the minimum, say I am on call the 31 of march and then again the 1 and 2nd of April, can I ask for the 3rd as an X day or does that not count becuase it is not 3 day block in Apr?

DIfference in culture. I guess the guy in the right seat is just a gear jerker and radio operator as he has no brain until he is a captain.

You are waaaaay out of line here.

Right back at you.

I read this guy's letter. What a bunch of hooey. His main beef is that he doesn't get to file his duty rig grievance. I wonder why. Maybe it was because the contract was written so that trip rigs didn't kick in until bid period 5. It says it right there in black and white. That language was voted on by the MEC and NWA pilot group. This whole case was a political sham, designed for some people to hold onto power for a while longer.

We heard the same hooey about the "NWA me too" grievance. That was filed and the net result for the union was that we spent a bunch of money on lawyers and arbitration and didn't get a dime. I don't know why we should spend a bunch of money on a useless grievance but apparently this gentlemen thinks we should. No one else agrees with him. Now he writes a whine fest about how he didn't get his way. Boo hoo hoo.

I made my comment before I read his letter, now that I have read it, it goes double. What a narcissist.
