Roll it up and tear it on the airplane logbook or the gate agent desk usually has a 12 inch piece of plexiglass to tear it on.
Hey save paper and when you print out the weather and clearance, just tear the paper in half and use the other half for your scratch pad. I do that all of the time. Also, for you guys with Easybid, you can print out trip sheets as well.
How about we worry about scope, pay and C2012.
This is small potatoes.

By that method a junior block holder without a line is essentially a reserve. Your block no line system seems a whole awful lot like our reserve system now. Your reserve system from what I've heard sucked mightily. All short call for junior guys is what I have read here. Personally I don't see any advantage whatsoever to your former system, except for the very senior.
An "assignment" still pays double, right? Most guys fight over getting one, vs. crying about it. You don't have to answer your phone on your off days, so if you don't want it, don't pick up. Also, just about any excuse will get you out of it, "No Child Care" works, even if you don't have kids...
And on the "can I see the release" thing, what else besides fuel required was on the NWA release and why did the F/O need a copy? Take your hotel note pad with you and 'write it down' to your heart's content, or use printer paper, or rip off the bottom 3 feet of the Weather and +Notams nobody reads, and use that...gmafb.

Timbo;
I'm with you, if we are willing to fly for straight pay, then why would we not be willing to fly for double pay (even tho it still only equals our old straight pay). When I was ATL7er, I used to actually work the system (legally) to slide a big IA into my x-days... a 6 day mumbai paid 80 hours For awhile, I had several 130-160 hour pay months and got my x days back. One 777A had a 220 hr pay month. Early rolling thunder was a magical money generator.
BTW nice cat, tough to tell if it is big enough to live aboard.

I'm guessing you mean we only get one copy of the release? If this is the case it is a step backwards (albeit a relatively small one).
North paperwork includes 3 releases, one per pilot and one to leave signed with the agent. Most guys clip the release to their window (I personally use my trusty Sporty's kneeboard :-) and use it for scratch, plus you have all your flight plan/fuel/etc right in front of you rather than constantly playing "can I see the release for a second"?
Maybe this could be a best practice that we could adopt from nwa. How hard would it be for dispatch to change the program to dupe off an extra copy?

We're just talking about 3 copies of the release, not flight plan right? I'm just trying to make sure, on international flights you do not want more than 1 copy. Trash everything even multiple copies of the same thing.
Also, most important thing to learn about ACARS and AWABS is doing a runway change. Just look in your supplemental manual in chapter 5 on communications but just remember that although there is a lot you can write in there in most instances you just need to write 88/13R and hit SEND. It'll get runway 13R for you. The WDR has all of the runway and taxiway combos you can write in there. But even I can't remember, if I just put the runway doesn't it give me all of the taxiways allowed for the runway? I find what I need and go.
And remember: ATLXGDL then write SCORES

Just one more time for you South guys who keep telling us on here to just get some paper out of the ACARS printer and print the PDC for a paper copy of the flightplan, THERE IS NO PRINTER IN THE DC-9! We don't have them, and we are not getting them. We also, do not have FMS, somewhere in front of us we need to have printed or written down where to go at the next fix. Having a copy of the flightplan to clip to our yoke does the trick very well.
