I hope the best for Delta. Battling the worthless folks at the DOT won't be easy and a major win unlikely on either HND or LGA/DCA, but sometimes David beats Goliiath:

I still predict that Delta gets shut out by AA/UAL. This ruling won't have anything to do with what is good for the consumer or the economy. It has everything to do with what's good for this crowd in charge right now.

The article where I got the picture said: "the EA-18G kill was courtesy of a well-timed AIM-120 AMRAAM shot....the simulated combat exercise took place at Nellis AFB."

I think they should paint widgets on Lahoods and Schumer's office door and underneath the pilots windows on the JB/SWA fleet.

I saw an article the JAL is being delisted today, is there any chance that we'll look back and say (as some men do): "thank goodness I didn't marry that girl, who'd known she would turn out to..."

Maybe so, but in that case we have a legitimate argument in opposing ATI by both carriers (because I don't think we can affect the Open Skies treaty directly). It would have been a little strange to do so right after we tried to get JAL into Skyteam, but not under the scenario you describe.

...and the "Open Skies" treaty is contingent upon ATI approval for the Japanese carriers. So, lobbying, protests, lawsuits, whatever it takes, having DOT diss DAL once more gives it all a solid green light.

Which is why I think the DOT placates us, but giving us at least a couple, and still sticks it to us more subtly, by giving another to one of their favorite children, and one to Hawaiian.

No. JAL is going to become a force to be reconned with, as they're doing a top-to-bottom reorganization. They're cleaning up. Thye're getting a few billion, I saw in an article a couple of days ago that they are going to ask their wokforce to take (gasp!) a 5% paycut.

It's not a typo: it's five percent.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then! You should see the pic of the Raptor wallpapered with F-18 silhouettes.

Delta Air Lines Adds New Service to Memphis Hub
Spring schedule adds service to Amarillo, Texas., Toronto, Canada and Evansville, Ind.
MEMPHIS, Feb. 18, 2010 – Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today announced the addition of new
service between its Memphis hub and Amarillo, Texas and Evansville, Ind. Toronto, Canada also
returns as a destination with two daily frequencies.
The addition of Amarillo increases the total number of unique Texas destinations served from
Memphis to four, which include service to Dallas’ Love Field, Lubbock and McAllen.
“Operationally our Memphis hub has been one of our highest performing hubs and with the
overwhelming community support it is perfectly positioned for this additional service,” said Glen
Hauenstein, Delta’s executive vice president – Network Planning and Revenue Management.
Delta’s new daily service between Memphis and Evansville, Ind., will be served with a 50-seat
Bombardier CRJ-200, effective April 6, 2010*
Flight Departs Arrives
3730 Memphis at 7:45 p.m. Evansville at 8:52 p.m.
3731 Evansville at 6:30 a.m. Memphis at 7:38 a.m.
Delta’s new daily service between Amarillo, Texas and Memphis will be served with a 50-seat
Bombardier CRJ-200, effective June 10, 2010*

Flight Departs Arrives
4275 Memphis at 9:20 a.m. Amarillo at 11:20 a.m.
4277 Memphis at 1:40 p.m. Amarillo at 3:40 p.m.
4279 Memphis at 7:40 p.m. Amarillo at 9:40 p.m.
4274 Amarillo at 5:55 a.m. Memphis at 7:55 a.m.
4276 Amarillo at 11:45 a.m. Memphis at 1:45 p.m.
4278 Amarillo at 4:05 p.m. Memphis at 6:05 p.m.

Did I miss something? Apparently our customers are asking for more RJ's?
If they are asking for service versus no service at all, I think they'll sit in whatever will get them to the destination.

They are actually just adding those city pairs back into the schedule, they had been previously operated on 50's, canceled and are now being added back into the schedule on the type of airframe that had been used previously.

Seems we did both on this side of the Pacific. I like the idea of axing what you need to axe, and paying the remaining staff well to keep them motivated, but it's not something the competition (us, CAL, and UAL for example), have tried. We just wiped out a bunch of our people and the company raped and pillaged among the survivors.

Was JAL's only problem that they had overextended their network, or was it also comparatively high unit costs? If it's not just a network problem, and they are getting 5% in BK, and that indicates the limit of their ability to restructure, then maybe they're not doing it right.

I know I'm thinking like management, which comes with its' own perverted brand of logic, but I don't see how 5% cuts are material. Maybe it's because our cut was one order of magnitude higher.
