Seeing how some of the usual suspects are responding to Keenster is illuminating. His points have been well thought out with no hard edge, yet he's responded to the same way that some respond to me.

I've posted here for the last 3 years to learn and to maybe persuade through facts and humor. Nobody has time to post to those who can't be persuaded, and probably don't even read what you write anyway.

So I'll say goodbye to all here, and wish the best for all. Last bit of free advice: "group think" is always a bad thing. I hope somebody will share alternate views in a way that doesn't offend so many fDAL guys. I certainly was not able to do so.

Thanks to all the fDAL guys who've sent the many nice PM's. If we ever get to fly together, the beer and/or diet coke is on me.

Take care,

Carl

Carl;
We want you to stick around.

Alternate views are good. Polarizing the group where we get 30 pages of bitter back and forth does not good. It just puts us in or corners.

I enjoy alternate views from my. I have in fact changed my perspective on a great many things because of how an opposing view has been presents, and or the facts that were presented.

I am sure you will be back Carl. At least I hope you are.

Absolutely - call em like see you em! Why would anyone want it any other way. And for all the DAL guys on here both North and South - lets not be so thin skinned. We can learn a lot about each others operation and hopefully make the new DAL better for all of us.

Thanks for the kind words. Even though you and I had our differences from time to time, you always came across as somebody who wasn't angry to be confronted on an issue. It's a very good quality.

There are plenty of folks that are way smarter and more articulate than I who will hopefully not be as polarizing as I came across to so many.

Hopefully see ya on that big fat airplane some day.

Maybe a hybrid between the two would be nice, where as you can have 1.5 over 80 and GS's. We need to be careful however so that the incentive of flying high time doesn't negatively impact our staffing any more than it already has. This will be the fine line.

Keep in mind that even when the ALV's are low, you can still get green slips whereas if the ALV is 70hrs, you wont get any 1.5 over 80 on the initial bid and there most likely wont be much open time to pick up to the max of 85 hrs.

I would rather see better rigs first however, especially since we now have a lot of 30 hr layovers in real garden spots like GRB and RAP.
I agree. If you are a commuter, you will never get a GS unless you are hanging out in base for no reason with nothing to do. Even if you live in base, a good portion of the GS awards come with a report of less than 2 hours which make it tough for alot of guys to accept. GS are NOT as common as some make then seem. For 2009 I had a blanket GS request in for the entire year and was called 4 times. 2 of those calls were for reports ASAP which I could not do, so I did 2 GS trips the entire year. I would have made alot more money with the 1.5X pay above 80 even with the cap we have.

The cap will never go away so the 1.5X pay above 80 doesn't really do much good. I think we should go to 1.5X pay for whiteslips if the reserves required are below the reserves available for the days you WS a trip and leave the cap. You old XJT guys remember red flag days don't you? That system was great for both the company and the pilots because we got paid more to pick up a trip and they didn't have to IA trips. Anytime reserve coverage dropped below a trigger, they raised a "red flag" and open time pickup was paid at 1.5X pay.

Rocky,

Maybe you would...... initially, but I think the issue is a lot more complicated than that. What happens if a lot of guys start trying to flying 85 or 90 hours every month? Remember the law of unintended consequences.

Carl stick around, I learn from your posts, I learn from just about everyones posts and I know I'm not the only one.

I'd write more but I'm on an iPhone. No Internet at this hotel, first time in a long time I don't have free Internet in a hotel.*
---
I'll be honest with everyone- the original Delta is a dinosaur of an airline. I knew that when I got hired but it's still an awesome place to be and you learn to take the good with the occasional oddity. You know who else was a dinosaur?*Northwest. And United. And American. You've got people that have been working at all of these airlines since the 60s. that's old. But you can't clean sheet an airline of this magnitude and people who are a hell of a lot smarter said combine these two dinosaurs, overhaul them and you should have a better and stronger airline than anyone else. I'll take their word and so far I have seen nothing to say the merger was wrong. fwiw I'll take this infighting on this forum then the hellacious family feud i'm in or to be back at a regional where you're taught to hate everybody including yourself- for getting into this career in the first place. For a long time and probably now there is no light at the end of the tunnel for most of these guys.

You guys want to disagree and argue then go for it, I'm fine with it but just remember to be quick to listen. Slow to speak. Slow to anger. Slow to live to poke a coworker in the eye. And happy to be at the best and improving airline in the industry, just remember to look around.
