Seriously, how do you contact moderators? I think it would help if they could lock the threads near each other, until the respective discussions get started.

There is a list of the moderators on the bottom of the main page. PM them. I will too.

It should be set up that if you post you can't read it and if you read it you can't post. Then it can be a thought depository.

Frankly, the one thing to remember is that Delta Air Lines is a dinosaur. An old very large company. So is NWA. Two dinosaurs becoming one wasn't going to be pretty but I think its fair to say my biggest concern is that if NWA had a better way to do it then I sure as hell hope that someone in ATL isn't blocking it for egotistical reasons. When we fly the line we don't even know the names of the people who came up with policies and we don't care! Well, actually on the 88 you do but not on the ER. You assume that the rule book was made in the best interest of you, the plane and the airline and if its anything less because of somebodys ego then somebody needs to be moved to a different job. But with that said, I too have heard that a lot of things are what they are for SOC reasons and then change later to the better merged procedure. But guess what, I wasn't sitting in the room so I don't know.

Sink get those threads up...

Sorry, but I'm evidently not smart enough to find that list, except for HLDC. Would you mind working on the PM's, and I'll put up the four threads meanwhile?

They can move those in a heartbeat to a new section anyways, I've had plenty of threads moved and moved fast and I'm not even sure where they went?

IMHO:

Those in Flt Ops want what works best. Not a DAL thingie or a NWA thingie. From the conversations I have had with guys on the "A" team it was about adopting the quickest route to SOC. read: the least amount of issues with said policy to get SOC granted.

They stated over and over many times at each base visit that they did not shred the procedures they did not use. They saved em. They plan on using and or tweaking many of them after SOC. So here we are, post-soc. The real work starts. I expect to see a few years of tweaking. Fact is that if something from a DAL procedure incorporated in to a NWA procedure is the best way, that takes a ton of time. There is a lot of back and forth between the FAA, the guys doing it, the leagal team and the leadership. It can take years for one little thing. It is not a rubber stamp at all.

Also, I do not know one person that is doing something or making a procedure for ego. It is about the easiest route from a to b, and a route and procedure that is legally the correct procedure, with being the safest. It also needs to conform to the master op specs, the MMEL, the aircraft manufactures procedures etc. The CMO looks at this as well as the airline. In the end it is about mitigating liability.

There is constant turnover here on the forth floor. New eyes on the same problem every few years. It is a constant process.

In closing, I do not care how I operate the jet. Really I do not. I did it one way for ten years, and now do it another way. Both make sense on many levels. I see DAL's overlying philosophy in every procedure. (In effect: you are smart, you are a professional, we will give you a big bubble to work in, so use that brain and preform the job professionally. When you deviate stay within this big bubble or have a darn good reason why you did not) It really is not that big of a deal.
I know I am more big picture than most, so I do not see procedural changes as proverbial straws at a camels back. I am more worried about how we are scheduled, compensated, rewarded, how the airline succeeds etc, not about how I put the flaps down.

Lets focus on what matters. "What needs to be done to make this airline, this job and our families better today than they were yesterday."

Just my .02

Go to the bottom of the main page of the forum. The page where the "Majors" "regional" etc are listed. In the bottom right of the page there is list of the moderators that are on-line I think there are about 11 now.

All you can do is ask. SC really is up to the whims of the scheduler, it's not dependent on RAW score or anything else. They have a list of which times need to be filled and off they go!
Alright, thanks very much. I will try not to say how the old way was better, LOL...
