Could the underlying problem be frayed nerves over this JAL stuff? I think we're all waiting with baited breath, because if NRT takes it on the chin, then there is no rationale for the merger, and we'll be fighting among ourselves for a shrinking number of seats.

Either us or AMR, someone is going to lose. The thing is, we have a much larger operation to lose in the first place. If AMR loses, then it has to learn to do more direct fligths to Asia... not exactly a disaster for their pilots. If Delta loses, then we're relegated to distant third in Tokyo, with no access to HND. We can then become a leasure airline, as JAL/AMR and ANA/UAL take care of the high yield pax in HND.

Now that the Japanese are saying they want to start their review "from scratch", I have the feeling Delta is getting played between the Japanese factions within the ETIC, the government, and JAL. If Delta has to face some bitter pills, I'm pretty sure they'll try to pass them onto us to swallow.

How fun!

I agree. It's like hearing the prison warden's boots slowly clicking down the hall on the way to your cell!

As for the last part, maybe, maybe not. PPL have gotten real quiet down here in ATL either way. That means something is a brewing......

The common thread is that Delta is still here. How can we always be the surviving carrier if everything we do is dumb? So we may be a bunch of drooling, stupid southerners but we must do something right because we are still here. Someone tried to buy us and get rid of Delta and we sent them packing back to Phoenix. You should have seen Doug Parker testify in the Senate, he already knew he had been beaten, he looked like a whipped puppy.

By the way, I have worked at Delta for 22 years. For 18 years I have made more money than Northwest, 4 years less. DALPA is a bunch of weak, bend over, management wannabes but at least we get paid better.

People hate change. Pilots REALLY hate change. We get it, you have had a lot of changes. Quit whining about it. You think all your procedures are better because you knew about them and were comfortable with them not necessarily because they are better. Everyone knows that flight ops IT is not cutting edge, but I come to work, sign in the computer, print out my rotation and I am on my way. I don't care about it because it doesn't matter at all. Every month I get on the computer and spend about 2 minutes updating my landing currency (if the F/O didn't do it). Big deal. I guess I could cry about it, but it is 2 minutes. Probably less. I spend about 3 minutes a flight messing with ACARS. What am I going to save, another 30 seconds? Really, what is the issue here.

Oh, and you need to get one more shot, for free. If you get yellow fever, you will most likely die painfully. Go get your shot, your family will thank you.

For a group that talks about being battle hardened warriors, it really takes very little for you to start moaning and complaining. SOC was one month ago and you are already crying that all your suggested changes have not been implemented yet. Give me a break.
Great! Just when we all settled down and started getting along again, here comes Alpha to cr%p in the punch bowl. Well done, sir. You're about 10 pages late.

Has any other Fnwa people found their January take home pay was short? I understand that Dal accounting front loads the 15th paycheck but the take home should add up at the end of the month. I can't figure and I was looking to see if somone had the same problem and got it solved.

I have a reserve question. I have been on it most of my short career at Delta, but what happened yesterday kinda shocked me. I was on an X day to finish January on the 30th and started Feb month on the 31st with an on call day. At 4 AM they called and told me I was on short call starting at 5. I was a little shocked thinking I was supposed to get 10 hrs notice before going on short call. I don't remember specifically checking my schedule after 7 pm, but I know I never acknowledged any SC. Also since I was on an X day, couldn't I have been drinking till midnight legally? Just wondering because nothing happened, I wasn't drinking, I didn't get called in for a flight, but just mad I was called at 4 am. Thanks in advance.

About the "best practice" issues... why can't we start a thread to group these things, and discuss best practices? Anyone who goes to it would obviously be interested in having a civilized discussion about what we can do better. It would be done away from the clutter of this meandering thread, and save room for the kitten pictures.

Part of the problem is that there are so many discussions meandering through this thing, that each interferes with the other. For example, if I was interested in talking about JAL, I have to sift throough the crap about whether one airline was better than other, then sift through Carl's attempts to **** on every sand castle at the beach, then every post that tells me what a wuss I am as a South pilot, then every post that tells me what an idiot I am as a South pilot, it becomes gradually more and more difficult to focus on the important, much less the positive.

Simply put, this thing becomes gradually less manageable, where the thread becomes about itself, and about the mood of the participants (I believe we're currently experiencing the "time of the month" phase for many posters...).

Maybe a couple of the discussions be spun off.

I think Best Practices, Section 6, and JAL are big enough to deserve their own threads.

They have to assign SC by 1500 base time the day prior for those that have an X day preceding the on call day.

Check your schedule at 1501+ and make sure there is a time stamp on it. (What I do is check it once and then check it again to see the last time viewed is after 1500, then I save a screen shot of it on my computer and external hard drive. That way if they try that crap, I just tell them that I checked my sked at X time and I have a screen shot of it. They did it once to me and then literally called back at the call window start to give me a trip.)
If you do not check your sked it is conceivable that they could add SC at any time. I have talked to a few guys that have stated they swore they checked their sked later in the evening like you, then got called for a SC then a trip. Just protect yourself. Mozilla has free software for Screen shots, it is a add on. Best thing I have done. I take screen shots of everything. My initial line, my assignments, trips, you name it.

You can also check through the VRU and it puts a time stamp in DBMS, but I always back it up with getting on DBMS when I can. It is like good insurance.

Make it so. Put it in the mergers section, or maybe the admins can make a DAL section. I know they are open to input.

It is not just a FNWA thing. I had my first issue with credit, and it was a sked issue, not a payroll issue.
