I just replied to the e-mail you sent. Tell me about what you think of my predictions for the next four to five years.
Also not full of crap Bar, just using the data points to come to a SLIGHTLY different conclusion.
We do agree that:
1) Our Debt keeps us awake at night.
2) We should be buying jets when the interest rates are at record lows, but point one is more than likely prohibiting that.
3) Not doing point two because of point one will cause DAL to be forced in to a position where it has to spend billions on equipment over a span of a few short years
4) When doing three we will be paying very high interest rates.
5) Without dealing with one we will be in five which will be another 1113 visit during the next economic downturn. Ala our debt load is totally unsustainable.
6) If we get in to five because we do not deal with one six, 100 seat jets scope will be the proverbial bullet though the brain. Not necessarily because we cannot fly it here, but that we cannot finance it and will not have the credit due to five, ergo DCI gets another life blood.
Now if we pay down debt (personally below 10 billion and 35 billion in total commitments) we will avoid five and six but take on debt with two and be able to afford it with out dealing with four. In the end I think that is why we are going for lightly used jets. It is the only band-aid that may stop the cards from falling.
In regards to the previous post:
In regard to our debt, IF the economy grows and we motor our of this economic fire storm in the next 12 months, DAL will start to see their revenue and profit increase, allowing them to repay a lot of this debt. That is good for everyone. Cash flow is king!
Because we need to increase our cash flow to pay off this debt a lot needs to happen. Namely we need cash with out a ton of capital expenditures. JV"s allow this. You know I was going to get there. From a corporate perspective they allow increased revenue without the capital outlay. AF-KLM is huge and will go a long way in bringing in premium revenue. JAL is to, and as we get out of the Global Recession, the cash flow from this deal will further help us repay our debt and create a airline of supreme financial position.
In regards to us and our wants/demands for C2012. Well with increased cash flow the company can do more than one thing at a time. The other things besides paying down debt are out contract and aircraft renewal.

Nu - if you can convince me that would be more fun that kibitzing - you win. Can't believe you're holding out on me.
ACL - at Dow 5,500 I'm going to be growing crops on a farm in North Georgia and hiring Carl to shoot carpetbaggers. Lets hope it does not come to that. Although in all reality, I have bought land which has two fresh water supplies which can't be tampered with, an irrigation system and fences. It does not need an external power source. The only problem would be defending it.
