Who gets trained first? AE's, MD's or VD's?

AE's, then VD's, then MD's.

Thanks! Can the company adjust as needed? I got an AE to the 765 in NYC and I see plenty of MD's junior to me getting trained first. Not a big deal as I don't want to get to NYC and be the bottom guy until everyone else gets trained, just curious.

It has to do with your current category, actually...not the category you're going to.

The list they put out is "planned" period. They have a 360 conversion on this one and could in effect convert everyone Dec 31, 2010, though that is not realistic.

When they convert they go AE, VD, MD in that order.

AE in seniority order

VD in seniority order

then, MD in reverse seniority order.

As 80 points out it is based upon current base, category and status. (Base, jet, seat) It is not Jet and seat system wide. That is why you are seeing some people that are junior not getting converted until Nov, and some that are senior to them getting converted next month.

I know a few have complained about this, and I have tried to explain it to ppl. They need bodies to fly jets and if they just went with system wide jets and seat, there would be places where there were not enough bodies to fly the schedule.

I have been trying to swap reserve days off. I know to go to PCS and Leave Requests. Once there, the format is the most confusing thing I have ever seen. Finally called crew skeds. Rather than explain how to fill in the blanks they entered it for me. I appreciate their help but still dont know how to do it. Is there any place to look that explains the proper way to fill out that request. Thanks for the help.

DAL330,

I know this really does not apply to you if you are going from the 330 to the 765 because they pay the same. But if what you say about the company changing training is true (and I have no reason to doubt you), then everyone who is going to training for an AE/VD should be aware of this item in section 22 of the contract:

9. If a junior pilot, who holds an AE or VD from the same posting and to the same category as a senior pilot, is converted before the senior pilot, the senior pilot will be pay protected at the rate applicable to the higher paying position for the hours paid to him in his current category. Such pay protection will commence on the first day of the second bid period
after the conversion date of the junior pilot.

Exception: Such senior pilot who is converted after such junior pilot will not be pay
protected if:
a. he required training and the junior pilot did not,
b. his conversion was delayed due to his failure to complete training, or
c. his training is delayed:
1) at his request, or
2) due to his:
a) sick leave,
b) military leave of absence, or
c) disability.

Add to the list above for not getting pay protected: vacation if you said you wanted to keep your vacation when you entered your AE/VD bids. I believe this item is listed in the vacation section of the contract.

Default Looks like JAL Cargo sale has hit a snag

UPDATE 1-JAL, Nippon Yusen air cargo talks hit snag - Nikkei
Thu Jan 28, 2010 2:18pm ESTStocks

Jan 29 (Reuters) - The talks for the merger of air cargo operations of ailing Japan Airlines Corp (9205.T) and Nippon Yusen KK (9101.T) have reached an impasse over the basic framework of the deal, the Nikkei business daily reported.

In August last year, the two companies had agreed to combine their air cargo businesses by April 2010.

The plan called for JAL to spin off cargo operations, which would then be absorbed by Nippon Yusen unit Nippon Cargo Airlines Co. Nippon Yusen was to own a 50 to 60 percent interest in the new entity, with JAL holding the rest, Nikkei reported.

After JAL filed for bankruptcy protection last week, the state-backed Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp (ETIC) of Japan sought to sell off the cargo business or keep JAL's stake in the merged company to a minimum, the newspaper said.

"Doing so would remove the cargo operation's aircraft and roughly 3,000 employees from the balance sheet. The segment has been logging an operating loss of more than 20 billion yen a year," the Nikkei reported.

ETIC is overseeing JAL's reorganization.

The daily said Nippon Yusen opposes taking on the additional personnel, and quoted a senior executive saying that "the talks may be broken off". (Reporting by Ashutosh Joshi in Bangalore; Editing by Gopakumar Warrier)

I know Delta stopped the NWA Cargo ops up in Anc, but could they sell the 744Fs to us if needed? They are probably more efficient than our older 742s?

You put the groups that you are changing.

Example:
From To
2 Feb - 6 Feb 3 Feb - 7 Feb

If you just want to move one xday from the beginning of a group to the end (or vice versa), you do not have to shift all the days over one. As an example: If you have 3,4,5 off and want 4,5,6 off just enter the 3rd from and the 6th to. That way, if the reserves required do not meet the reserves available on the 4th or the 5th but do on the 3rd, you will get the swap. I don't think that is the case if you list all three for the shift.
