If you don't want to hear this then don't do an unfair comparison of the 2. We only hope and pray that our new management knows what it is doing as it dismantles a company (NWA) that was very successful over it's life. You would not know anything about the dismantlement because you are not seeing it or living it on the DAL side. That is to be expected in a merger. So if we have bad feelings or angry feelings it is more directed at management for what they are doing. The jury is still out. Again, I hope and pray that they know what they are doing for all of us concerned. Good luck to us all.
Steenland horded the cash because he was looking for a dance partner, the same way Alaska Air is doing now. Whoever gets Alaska, gets the cash to maybe pay down debt. Also, please remember than your old CEO is now your new CEO again, and he knew all about the freighter ops, and about your assets. He is running the show, along with plenty of prior NWA management people. Ever heard of DINO? Delta in Name Only. Don't blame everything on Delta South, as we are now all truly in this together. Good luck to all of us.

Raise a toast. Here's to you DAL APC board monitor guy!
I'm sure this sums up what Mr APC monitor and SD and RA (p.s. Ftb: you're so kicking AMRs ### and I'm a brownoser) thinks of us, some smart, some:

The rare first pic of Acl (left) and ftb (right). I think he was explaining something to me, I think 80 told ACL that "he probably kept up with you for a mile or so... tough little mutt."

A couple of tidbits from the CVG base visit. Nothing completely unexpected, but a few interesting items:

-will probably begin to close CVG 7ER category with the May bid. May go out in one bid, but possibly 2 - depends on what the training pipeline looks like at the time. 73N, MD88 categories in CVG “about the same.”

-The other big item on the upcoming bid will be the opening of a SEA 7ER category.

-Other AE stuff: about 50 crews displaced off the DC9 to account for the last retirements of the 30/40. Want to shift remaining 767 categories to 7ER categories within 2 years. Still no firm plan on 330, 744 or DC 9 re-basing. Will probably 90 qualify NYC M88 for the additional planes arriving this year. If we get more 90's, will probably 90 qualify ATL as well. Probably continue to bulk up on narrow-body crews.

-Decision on GUM delayed until 2011 due to JAL Deal.

-From network - reworking the banks at CVG to better compliment DTW. Not guaranteed success, but “we’re not walking away.” (Yet?)

-New commuter policy will (supposedly) address RJ commutes (and lack of ability to reserve jumpseasts on them,) and should be out soon.

While not perfect, our MEC has been battle tested and I expect those leaders to build on lessons of the past as we go into our upcoming talks.
Battle tested doesn't mean joining with management to stop a USAir takeover. Battle tested doesn't mean losing retirements, pay and work rules in bankruptcy court. Battle tested means withdrawing your services from a management team that wants to destroy you and your union. DALPA has never experienced that.

I hope you're right that DALPA will have a strategy for the talks in 2012. I'd be happier if they announced their strategy to begin those talks this year so that we have a new contract ON the amendable date of our current contract. I also hope they have a strategy of preparing the membership for self help in the event that management wants to begin talks in 2012 and finish them around 2015 with a concessionary final offer.

Unless DALPA has a marked change in leadership, it is clear to me that our success will greatly depend upon how nice management decides to be with us.

Two words for you FlyingViking:

SPELL CHECK!!

I've offered a website for your personal training regiment, if so inclined.

Not to insult your intelligence, as I'm sure you are extremely intelligent, here is at least one word of constructive criticism that hopefully does not come across as a "personal attack".

PROOFREAD!!

Again, I've offered a website for your reading pleasure.

MORAL OF THIS STORY:

Kingbird doesn't need your personal attacks, or Carl's for that matter. This aviation forum, which has lasted 27,000+ posts doesn't need them, and for everyone else offering constructive posts on this forum, they certainly don't need to waste their time reading your personal attacks either.

Thank you for your continued consideration if you feel that personal attacks are still necessary.

I disagree to an extent. Having seen Lee speak, I think they've got some good ideas and strategies going forward. There are issues here and there, but no MEC is perfect. Being all "bull in a china shop" with mgmt is just as bad as being all lovey dovey.

I think they are trying to find that medium. Besides, the 2000 contract was pretty much the best contract any pilot group has ever seen.

No one has a good track record after all the bankruptcies and having their balls held to the candle. I was running around DTW after the North guys signed that POS and saw the DC-9's taxiing so slow you had to look at the cracks on the ground to see if they were moving. I saw the large RJ explosion at NWA and DAL... the pensions get frozen at NWA and them go away at DAL.

No one can tout anything through that because it all just sucked. "Hey, we sucked less than you!" Give me a break... Learn from it and quite arguing over it. (not directed at you, just at the general finger pointing that's been going on)

The point is....we'll see. I'm cautiously optimistic. As they say, trust but verify.

Spell check won't help you here Gearjerk, because you used the wrong word. A regiment is a military unit or battle group. A regimen is probably what you meant. A training regimen is a plan of action for a person's training. Probably not a good idea to be critical of someone's spelling when you don't use words correctly.

Not a personal attack, just pointing out facts.

With both Kingbird and you, pointing out facts is not a personal attack. You might feel like it is, but it isn't.

Carl,

Point goes to you, good sir, on the improper use of the word regiment.

If you feel that the quote I included in my post from "FlyingViking" wasn't a personal attack, then I only have two words for you.

SEA --- NILE. <intentionally spelled that way as to not offend the almighty 747 Captain who feels that there is room for a "lack of integrity" amongst our profession in negotiations with management.

FIRE AWAY. I'm sure I've seen worse in my 19 years of military service.

In response to the post about the CVG Base vist.... Anyone have any idea as to how big the SEA 7ER base might be if it comes to fruition?
