Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
I don't care who in management knows. Nobody should.
I still can't believe anybody is fretting over the fact that management might be listening. Especially you ACL since you are considering a union position some day.
Here's my new litmus test for a guy running for union office:
Step 1: Put an anonymous note in front of the candidate saying that "management may be listening."
Step 2: See if he wets himself.

Could you imagine what that guy would be thinking if he had a rear view mirror: Oh Jeeze. Please don't let the fireball get me. Please don't let the fireball get me.
You...not so much.

Interesting read....
With respect to everyone aboard, everyone seems to know what my intent was by mentioning the need to treat everything one says as in the public domain. It IS in the public domain, once you hit send, you can't have it back. Everything that is old is new again, and someday in the future, it will not be like it is today, and comments about using sick leave for whatever reason, BOB, insider information about strategic moves, job actions, etc. will be great fodder for an injunction, a deposition or whatever. This is a business we work for, and as such, all is fair which affects the bottom line. As long as I have been in this business as an employee, it has always amused me to no end when pilots think they are part of, or in the LOOP. We are not. We are a contract. We have faces and names, but we are in no way in the strategic operation of this business. My wife was a Sr. Financial Analyst at a large purple company and presented "Outlook Information" to the CFO and CEO each week. When investors sued the purple company for missing projections, guess who ended up deposed in legal proceedings?

And Viking, lighten up on Favre, it was a run that never would have happened without him.

I hope you're right, but the membership will have to adapt as well.
This latest discussion has taught me something though. I used to think we had a very weak union that was representing a tough group of pilots. I couldn't understand how DAL pilots could allow this. Now it's clear that DALPA is only reflecting the majority of its members.

So ACL, per the conversations on this thread about the C-Series. It looks as if EMB is nimbling at or possibly about to make a go at it to compete with the C-Series. It might be real or it might be posturing. Looks like its a stretched E195 with bigger engines, probably better performance and I wouldn't be surprised if its a different wing like they did between the 170 and 190. A stretched 195 will be a very big plane fwiw. Its not your FO's 170.
I bring this up here for one reason, we just heard today no new NEW planes. We know the 90 is being brought in -30/-40 replacement and the -50s are staying for a while. So hopefully not a net loss of positions at DAL. But that doesn't mean no new planes in 2012 for a real -30/-40 replacement that is similiar in size, i.e. a pilot growth plane.
Is the C-Series and DAL possibilities dead in light of the big 90 grab? Or does the Embraer move possibly show signs that the C-Series is being seriously considered and EMB needs to respond? Or that EMB is just trying to split interest and demand? I don't know, just wondering where the C-Series (i.e. the most likely 100 seat replacement) sits with DAL.
Proposed stretch dubbed E-195X by Embraer

In my opinion this news is the result of certain DAL execs going down to Embraer last year. They wanted an airframe that had better costs than the CS-100. The 195 is a good start and we may start with that, an improved wing et al under the same type would close the deal for DAL. (Just my opinion of course )
My guess is that the "no new planes" is the story this year. The company is trying to rein in their capital expenditures and debt load - I guess it's making Wall Street nervous. Also, companies seem to make bad long-term decisions to keep cash flow going to pay debt.
That IS a big plane - this quote got my attention: A source with knowledge of the situation says Embraer responded to a request for proposals to replace American Airlines' McDonnell Douglas MD-80s with the so-called E-195X.
Regional aircraft - whatever. These are mainline-sized aircraft, doing mainline service. They need to be flown with mainline pilots. Just because it's the same company that made the Brasilia doesn't make it a commuter airplane. Same with Bombardier.
I think as long as we can get MD-90s at bargain prices, Delta will. Why pay all sorts of money for a new plane when a used one will do more, for less? The difference in price can pay for a lot of mx. Of course, there is a limit to the number of MD-90s in the world... but look how long it took to get the China Eastern ones? I've been hearing "more MD-90s are coming" for two years!

I have been looking at this whole thing for some time. Long term not working at slowly updating the fleet will leave us with 400+ narrowbody jets over 25 years of age. A replacement cost of 200 billion. That is totally unattainable. I am sure that they know this, so why the disconnect?
My guess, and it is just a guess, DAL can only get so much money since we owe about 17.5 billion and total commitments are near 44 Billion. Those numbers should scare everyone. That needs to be paid down. If we do not, things will once again get very ugly in the next down turn. (not suggesting anything towards 2012, just stating a need to pay down our debt to under 10 billion IMHO)
Heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard from another you been.............oh nevermind.
I did hear new hires will be flowing up from Compass starting in March this year. No I'm not making it up. ACL???
