Anyone want to expand on how? *

How do we do vacation move-ups? Did I already miss the deadline? I didn't even know we could do that until reading the last couple posts.

What kind of Mushrooms they putting in that Crew Meal Pasta?

In your metaphor, which side is dug in to Kennesaw Mountain?

I think RA is the Jay Leno of this situation.

They are done every month and posted by the 5th of the month so you can moveup a vacation before bidding the next month. You might want to check the contract but I think the bid must be in by the end of the month. Example: You wanted to move a vacation from Mar 10 to Feb 10. You needed to put in the vacation moveup by the end of Dec 09. If you got it you would know by Jan 5, 2010. If you do not get it, the bid stays active until you get it or the above timing has expired. Primary vacation moveups have priority over secondary etc. So if a guy senior to you is trying to move his secondary and you are trying to move your primary, you will get the move up first because primary is a higher priority.

Also be aware of MOU #1 in the contract. This deals with swapping a vacation with another guy in your specific category and base. The timing for doing this is the same as above.

Hope this helps.

I have heard from numerous sources including ALPA that DAL expects to recall additional furloughs and hold a few small classes during summer and continuing on through 2011. All will be either furlough recalls or flow-ups from compass/possibly some XJ. No off the street hiring is projected in 2010 or 2011.

So there it is, the answer to the question that I've asked twice, which was: is there EVER a time where the majority of DAL pilots would use a self help weapon against their own management team? The answer is not only a resounding no, but apparently all it takes is a few posts from an anonymous internet character to stop any debate on the subject.

So I wish you all the best folks. Continue to discuss whether management will buy more airplanes, or hire more pilots. But most importantly, pray that management is always nice to us. Because in my opinion, this pilot group does not have the will to fight management if that's what it comes to.

Maybe I'm just too old and have fought too many battles against management, but it seems to me that our current crop of leaders have a profound fear of fighting. They simply cannot accept the possibility of a negative consequence. But they can't outwardly discuss how afraid they are to fight, so they develop terms like: "a cooperative relationship with management." That sounds so much better than the real truth. Only time will tell whether this experiment will work. My opinion - no way.

Best to all,

Carl
With respect to everyone aboard, everyone seems to know what my intent was by mentioning the need to treat everything one says as in the public domain. It IS in the public domain, once you hit send, you can't have it back. Everything that is old is new again, and someday in the future, it will not be like it is today, and comments about using sick leave for whatever reason, BOB, insider information about strategic moves, job actions, etc. will be great fodder for an injunction, a deposition or whatever. This is a business we work for, and as such, all is fair which affects the bottom line. As long as I have been in this business as an employee, it has always amused me to no end when pilots think they are part of, or in the LOOP. We are not. We are a contract. We have faces and names, but we are in no way in the strategic operation of this business. My wife was a Sr. Financial Analyst at a large purple company and presented "Outlook Information" to the CFO and CEO each week. When investors sued the purple company for missing projections, guess who ended up deposed in legal proceedings?
This is a great place to opine, reflect, share information that may help us make informed decisions regarding our careers. I am and was saying be cautious of what you say on this open forum. If you would not sign your name and reputation to your comment, don't hit send. When you hit send, you are signing your name. And if anyone thinks I am trying to stop debate, you couldn't be further from the truth. You are my fellow professionals in the careers we have devoted our working lives to. I welcome all your comments, I may have a little trouble deciphering pidgin english now and then, but what I was and am saying is that please consider the consequences of someone without your best interest at heart reading what you post.
And Viking, lighten up on Favre, it was a run that never would have happened without him.

Just to be technical, Delta does not have anyone on involuntary furlough. Everyone was offered recall and some chose to bypass recall for whatever reason.
