I was only able to catch a small part of the dog & pony in ATL, but one thing SD said struck me. *He said we'll be hearing continuing talk of capacity remaining flat, but pointed out that we staff according to pilot block hours which were going to be 5.7% higher than last summer.
So if capacity remains flat and we (DAL) are flying more pilot hours, my limited dot connecting ability combines this information with some other points made by others here recently and spits out ----- 3 (what??!!) *
Ok, dot connecting computer seems broke so intuition says we're taking back more flying!

Jamie Call just asked a REALLY good question.
"If JAL and Delta fail to get Anti Trust Immunity, doesn't open skies basically go back to the drawing board, which would be very good for Delta ?" *Richard Anderson answered quickly "yes." *So Jamie followed up that there is not a downside to this JAL deal, either way.

Also be aware of MOU #1 in the contract. This deals with swapping a vacation with another guy in your specific category and base. The timing for doing this is the same as above.

I have heard from numerous sources including ALPA that DAL expects to recall additional furloughs and hold a few small classes during summer and continuing on through 2011. All will be either furlough recalls or flow-ups from compass/possibly some XJ. No off the street hiring is projected in 2010 or 2011.

I couldn't disagree more. King did something that I've never seen on these boards. He tried to stop a debate by saying "management knows who all you guys are...and you are about to learn a painful lesson that you'll never forget, etc." Complete threatening BS, but it sure has worked for the folks on this thread.
So there it is, the answer to the question that I've asked twice, which was: is there EVER a time where the majority of DAL pilots would use a self help weapon against their own management team? The answer is not only a resounding no, but apparently all it takes is a few posts from an anonymous internet character to stop any debate on the subject.
So I wish you all the best folks. Continue to discuss whether management will buy more airplanes, or hire more pilots. But most importantly, pray that management is always nice to us. Because in my opinion, this pilot group does not have the will to fight management if that's what it comes to.
Maybe I'm just too old and have fought too many battles against management, but it seems to me that our current crop of leaders have a profound fear of fighting. They simply cannot accept the possibility of a negative consequence. But they can't outwardly discuss how afraid they are to fight, so they develop terms like: "a cooperative relationship with management." That sounds so much better than the real truth. Only time will tell whether this experiment will work. My opinion - no way.

With respect to everyone aboard, everyone seems to know what my intent was by mentioning the need to treat everything one says as in the public domain. It IS in the public domain, once you hit send, you can't have it back. Everything that is old is new again, and someday in the future, it will not be like it is today, and comments about using sick leave for whatever reason, BOB, insider information about strategic moves, job actions, etc. will be great fodder for an injunction, a deposition or whatever. This is a business we work for, and as such, all is fair which affects the bottom line. As long as I have been in this business as an employee, it has always amused me to no end when pilots think they are part of, or in the LOOP. We are not. We are a contract. We have faces and names, but we are in no way in the strategic operation of this business. My wife was a Sr. Financial Analyst at a large purple company and presented "Outlook Information" to the CFO and CEO each week. When investors sued the purple company for missing projections, guess who ended up deposed in legal proceedings?
