Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
While I agree that not all of our dirty laundry should be aired on this site, I do think the greater good is certainly served by those of us who post, opine and lurk here. I don't think it should be closed at all, in fact I encourage all of the guys I fly with to come here and post. As ACL as attested, a lot of us have become friends on this site. I would argue also that a lot of the original ill will of this historic merger was calmed by this thread in particular. I know I have come to understand the fNWA position much more clearly thanks to the buds who post here. I would hope that they would have gained something as well from us fDAL dudes.

Well to steer the discussion back to the optimistic stage:
I had a phone call from a an old friend in the Pacific Rim, deeply affected by the JAL BK. I empathized with him over what is and will be an extremely painful time on his co-workers and their way of life.
The reason for his calling was to give his take on what this will look like in the short-medium-long term. He is ok financially and so I trusted his perspective as being a little more objective than could be expected.
To sum it up, good things MAY be on the way for us (DAL, n & s). I would even venture to guess that it is more likely than not....but of course all deals could be scuttled at the last minute. Without getting into the details he laid out, I could point out that:
A. financing is finally shaking loose out there, especially for those perceived to be best in class
B. JAL will be smaller....publicly stated
C. DAL's team has said and made all the right moves, and frankly has the subtlety needed in that part of the world
D. They also have the subtlety and contacts to make anti-trust much more of a non-issue on this side of the big pond and have been working that for much longer than I would have thought..
E. big jets, medium jets....just about everything except lil' jets are in the term sheets being tossed about for our side...
My hope is that just like the long ride to Disney in the summer, when my kids are griping about everything from the seat belts to the gummy bears under their butts....it all falls away when the BIG GATES come into sight with potentials they never imagined....
I'm hopeful for us while more than a little sad for my bud...this is a zero sum industry in the end.

New will be the easiest to spot:
I have issues.
ahhhhhhhh yes...........NewK fly'en the mail between Minneapolis and Chicago. Those were some tough old boyz.
Fighter pilots from that era thought enclosed cockpits were the dumbest things they had ever seen.........you had to get close enough to smell the exhaust of the guy you were going to shoot. Enclose the cockpit, and you would never know when you were in range.
Ferd <------is scared just look'en at that guy

Seriously??? or to keep the masess from raising their voice?
Take a break and stop threatening us. I am a "new" hire and where I am coming from used to take care of losers like you. Don't push it looser or I am coming after you. I know well too much of who you are and what you stand for, don't even think you are adding any good to this forum so just back off. Seriously, I mean it.

We're all Delta pilots. That said, I'm a south guy, and I'll take KingBird and his posting history over yours anyday...
Personal threats...how childish and inane! Move back over to FI!

757 5500's supposedly staying in fleet
Based on the number of NW jets in the release, 269, yes the 5500 series is staying. Right now there are 22 of them flying (3-4 parked). Subtract 22 from 269 and you get 247 - which was the number of NW planes being refurbished in previous Delta releases for months. So unless there's some phantom 22 NW planes out there, the 757-5500 appears to be staying...Now all we need for additional confirmation is seeing one of them fly off for paint.
Carl,
I agree with you. Someday we will need to stand up and show that we are not going to be taken advantage of. That is EXACTLY why I would discourage infighting (especially on a public message board) and personal attacks.
Many on here are far too quick to do management's bidding for them and look down upon their fellow pilots. On the flip side, I don't feel that our current relationship with management is giving us any reason to "grow a pair" and start a meltdown. So far, they have shown a genuine (in my opinion) interest in engaging the pilot group. What has occurred here is unprecedented, and until that relationship changes (and it probably will around 2012) I see no need to start trouble where it doesn't exist.
The key, as you seem to be pointing out, is that we ALL BE WILLING to take a stand if necessary, should management decide to alter the relationship. There is a middle ground between bending over because we don't want to rock the boat, and starting a riot for no good reason. Frankly I'm very pleased that we are operating in the middle ground and hope it continues.

official cutover jan. 31st...actually has already been done last weekend and all worked well.
as early as mid april a north pilot could get rerouted to fly a 767..(not scheduled)
approx. may 1 vacate marine air terminal, expect government approval in a couple weeks
5.7% higher pilot block hours this summer compared to 2009
maybe by mid-march sims will get jepp shipsets....no more carrying jepps to sim. this is practice for whole airline getting them...eventually
more peacetime CRAF flying
a330 sim could be in service by march
500 million planned synergy was the plan for last year, actually reached 800 million with merger so far...good for us
for all you RJ haters....50 more 50 seaters gone this year.
started this year with 5.3 billion, expect 5.7 by end up summer and end year with 5.4
This sucks and I quote, "CVG downsized by QUITE A BIT" .....but to backpedal....it will remain a hub.
Memphis will stay the same as it is....makes a good pressure relief valve for ATL
Cvg doesn't work as good for DTW as MEM does for ATL. DTW has room for growth making cvg less necessary.
ATL is pretty full so growth will come from upgaging equipment. i.e. RJ's replaced by dc-9's to carry more peeps into atl
SEA will see growth....ER
Nothing said on dfw
next bid may or early june. not a clean up bid, just another of many bids to come
staffing looks good
50 dc9 crews will be displaced on the next bid....look for fall for these to take affect when the 30's & 40's go away
training ramps down for summer to have all hands on deck then picks up again in fall
sandwhiches were from jason's deli.....very yummy....lots more was said but thats all my brain can remember and now its time for a cocktail.
