Anyone who owns their own home and a rental knows how easy it is to hide the money. On the scale of accounting that Delta works with its unimaginable.
As my grandpa told me one time when he pointed out a hottie and I said she was out of my league. He said, let women figure out why they wont screw you, don't do it for them.
Same rule applies to management. We don't need to screw ourselves, let management try.

You are looking at it correctly for a snapshot in time. During the term of any contract there is minimal impact (very minor profit sharing, premium pay, and potential operational disruption costs). During the negotiation for the next contract it is a big deal (our 1113 case, for example). Management showed total sick leave costs (total pilot pay hours) that were way out of sync with the rest of the industry. When sick leave was modified, the total costs went down over 25% year over year (close to industry), which wasn't because of the change in sick pay, but because the change in the number of pilots calling in sick. That change in sick pay cost every pilot that needed the old hours and full vice 75% pay. For those that used sick pay as "platinum" days, there was no change.
Did the change in pay cause pilots to get sick less or fly sick more? That's a different discussion, but our LTD rate is closer to industry norm now, which is an indicator of behavioral changes.
Sick leave is just one component of our compensation package, but it is costed just as medical benefits, retirement, pay, and rules/rigs are costed.

Actually not. It was very poorly played. The Vikes had 500 yards of offense and 5 turnovers?! Two in the redzone? Both teams were playing not to lose. I hate the Vikings (because I heart the Packers) but this was not a good lead-in game to the Super Bowl. Actually, you could tell both teams were rusty.

All he had to do was NOT throw a pick and the game winning field goal was there! He stepped up to old fashion and.......threw a pick sending game to a losing effort in OT!

You embarrass yourself when you talk about items you know nothing about. Let me attempt to educate you:
Sick leave usage at NWA was massive. Management screamed bloody murder. Our union told them it is their own fault, by not having a policy that allowed for commuting TO work. Management said that would be impossible. Our union said fine...then expect things to continue. Management threatened and threatened, but sick leave usage continued unabated. Then management came to our union (in mid-contract) and said, let's talk. Management agreed to the policy and presto changeo, sick leave usage fell dramatically.
Now I know some will say that was just horrible of NWA pilots. I disagree. My sick leave account belonged to me. My union negotiated it and I did what I wished to do with it. Most pilots felt the same way. I thought it did show some courage/stones. You ought to try it someday Slow.

Sorry to jump into this catfight but is your sick leave account a "sick" leave account or a personal time off account. Seems to me that is the salient point.
