And by tarnation, if it's better that what we had at DAL, it must be pretty darn tootin', good.

Sorry, Clamp old buddy, I mean no offense, but this whole issue is a perfect illustration of the differences in the mindset among us....

Seriously, Captain Obvious, do you think we all just started using the jumpseat in 1996 or something?

First come, first served. Means. Exactly. That.

The clock strikes noon, and the person with the quickest finger on the enter key wins. See, computers are really, really fast, and can tell the difference between now and now down to the millisecond.

I mean, I undestand at DAL, "online booking" probably means you have to order your punch card 2-4 weeks in advance from the "first place, right place" person, then you have to painstakenly punch it (no hanging chads, please!), then gently place it in the pile of other punch cards where it all gets loaded into the Univac in a big pile when the sundial showed high noon...but at NWA, where we had "big boy toys", it worked very, very well.

Sheesh....

This is really funny. Broke my boredom while taking a break painting my garage.

Former NWA Gate agents are telling me as of Jan 31, they will lose the window based computer system and convert over to "new" DAL DOS based system.

I guess I don't really see the big deal about the jumpseat booking window being 4.5, 5.5, or 10.5 days. It sounds like the argument for a longer window is for those that have a long trip to book it before they leave home. Well, in any given month, I'm probably on a trip 10 days before I want to reserve the jumpseat anyway and if you are on a trip longer than 10 days.....well the point is: What difference does a longer window mean as long as we have the going to work, coming home from work, and personal use priority?

Now being able to book online is a huge plus.

Denny
(Offline commuter anyway)

You're reading me wrong. I was saying it's nice to see a move in the right direction.

Booking online is high up on my list...

I'm a commuter so this isn't a "You commuters quit playing on my lawn" kind of complaint.

All this back and forth about booking the jumpseat 3 days out, 5 days out, ten days out seems a little silly. Lets say today I can book the jumpseat 3 days out - fine. I'm at home, or I'm on a trip in a hotel, or I'm in the air, or in a car driving to Grandma's house. It really is a crapshoot where I am at the stroke of noon 3 days prior to my jumpseat to work.

So lets change the booking window to 5 days. Same exact problem - I could be any of those places. Same for 7 days out, 10 days out or 20 days out.

Some say that the ten days is longer than the longest trip. So what? Put three 4 day trips together and boom, you're on a trip. Or two six days.. etc etc.

You just don't get it... a 10 day window will solve all problems that the airline has.

You ladies need to think like DALPA.

You want 10 day jumpseat reservations so you can get to work easier?
That's great, but its tough economy out there.
The APA has been playing hardball and they haven't got 10 day JS.
What are you willing to give up?

You forgot:

"We'd have to give it to the FAs also"

Seriously...looking at the mindset of some of the guys and gals over such a TRIVIALLY SIMPLE, NO COST ITEM, I really weep for 2012. I swear I'm in Sweden from the sickness around here.

Serious question... why 10 days? Why not 12 since that is typically the longest rotation length? I'm just trying to figure out the logic.

Personally, I think online booking should be of the utmost priority.

I never thought it was fair that guys had computer programs that would book it for them on the second with nothing done on their end.
