At NWA, there was no max silo so being in the 30-day silo pegged you at the bottom of the list until you had about 10 days left. These pilots might fly a trip a month and would get paid 75 hours. The con to the NWA system was there were junior commuter pilots who would never see long call. Also, under the NWA system, you couldn't sit long call on your last day of reserve.
the reason they did it was they'd bid SC because the LC's were the first to get called. These guys that lived in base could basically collect 75 hours pay to not have to work very often if they played the system right. Also under the NWA system when you did the long groups of days straight you got a couple of free days off with the 24 in 7 days rule. so typically they'd get 15 days off a month. For guys that lived in base and didnt want to work, it was a good deal.

Will no longer be? Already is. That's where all these 12hr 3 days are coming from.

You were always released at 1800 on the last day of reserve no matter if the first day off was golden or not. Like it's been said, it's almost never a factor at DAL anyway, but something to look at in the future.

I live in base and never bid for long call under the NWA system. They usually went out first. We could preference what time we wanted our SC time to begin, and 7 a.m. worked great for me, but it was 15 hrs. long (12 is better). Overall, I like the DAL reserve system better, except for the RAW score system (couldn't we just see what our credit hrs. are?) and the green slips being no credit.

I'm trying to decide if it would be better to bid a line or sit reserve during the busy months to maximize green slip pay. I would think that you may be able to make more money with a line, but would have less time off because you don't get the day back. If they are really short, maybe waiting for an inverse assignment would be the most profitable considering it's pay and credit for reserves. What do you DAL-S pilots think?

I bid my category as a block holder under the NWA system. Next month I find myself with an unwanted line of reserve. I'm just sayin'...

I used to do that all the time when I was on the freighter. At one point I went four months without a call. Amazing.
