Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
So let me get this straight, JAL is dumping virtually all widebody flying (ie international) including these YouTube - Delta JAL and focusing on domestic narrowbody flying. Seems to me, no matter how you slice it somebody is going to have to backfill at least some of those flights beyond what Delta currently provides? The domestic operation for JAL wouldn't be worth much (ie cash flow positive and profitable) without feeding warm bodies from the US, Europe, etc.
In addition, doesn't JAL do a fair bit of international freight hauling?

yes and the word is that we will be picking up the flying and a number of aircraft. Thus the reason why we're getting a new 747-400 sim added in MSP. The rumor is that we're going to see a significant uptick in widebody flying and training will be in full force for he next couple of years as we realign the airline. Its going to get real interesting!!
Or is that the Super premium widebody flying we heard about during the SLI. Deep breath everybody. Just Kidding.
Yup, sure enough thats CARGO alright. Says so on the plane: YouTube - JAL Cargo Boeing 747-400F ?JA401J?

thats a clip of a Japanese Securities analyst discussion about JAL. They are confirming that JAL will abandon all international routes as well. He's kinda tough to understand but its a good clip to see how the Japanese are viewing this.

Nice! I just found this. If you look real close during flair it looks like they already have your name painted on it. YouTube - KAI TAK - JAL SUPER LOGISTICS 747-400

Guys,
I know it has been a big pill for the fNWA guys to swallow to transition to mostly Delta stuff but its gettin' a little old to hear that everything was better the way NWA did it or easier or more efficient or whatever! Maybe it was or maybe it wasn't but good grief every single thing for you guys seems to be worthy of complaining about...Lets hope the changes come to an end soon for everyone!

And the whining from the other side over minor changes like who touched the FMS or using VNAV almost reached the same crescendo
I hope you heed your own advice when they blend more of fNWA procedures into DAL, which they will.
For me, with this whole JAL deal... the biggest thing is going to be how the JV is worded.
I see some very strong potential positives, but we can also get hosed as well if we're not careful. I like DALPA's stance with the AF JV stuff.... let's keep that going.
Tonights discussion... Ed Bastian, the man, the myth, the negotiator. Will he feel like we've helped out so much through all this that he gives us C2K back?

Hot Potato!
Time will tell though.
As for the first statement. This deal sounds and smells a little different. With AF you had an airline that was in a strong financial position, and wanted to keep their International Lift. With JAL the opposite is true. With that in mind I would not be overly surprised to see the JV fall along a "domestic" or "Regional" agreement for JAL with a percentage of the international lift with DAL performing anything over X miles etc.
I may be way off but given the fact that the Japanese government is involved in this and they do not want ANA to fly all of the international lift out of Tokyo there is significant opportunity for this agreement to look very different from that of the AF/DAL JV.
Of note, As they stated in the C44 brief last night, our slots (Pacific Route Authorities) were just used to refinance about 2 Billion in NWA debt about four or five months ago. It was financed at about 8.5-9.5% (220 million a year in interest) and given that and the great rate, they need to use those slots or find some other asset to use to refinance that debt. It is not that easy, and therefore agree with their assertion that yes, they will need to use those NRT slots in some form to make sure the collateral is still there for those debt notes.

Yeah thats what i heard but mem is a small base with only a few of us there for reserve so they're tagging 2-3 guys with sc when there is only 5-7 of us on call so we're getting nailed alot with SC more than just on the first day. Its been alot of fun this week!! fortunately for me i still have 9 reserve days left this month and it all must be LC so hopefully that makes up for my stint this week.
I mean really? Who cares how we fly their jets, I am more worried about how I am paid to do it!
At the risk of being one of those guys who always complains about the new Delta way:
What's stopping us from having REAL recall rights beyond 180 days, ALPA or the company?
I mean, it just seems wasteful to bump a guy from a position, then later refill it with someone who needs to go thru a full training cycle. As opposed to returning you to a position where you might need only two or three sims.
What really gives?
New K Now

They already complain that the 180 days is TOO LONG. They say if a more senior pilot bids that seat then he should be awarded the seat ahead of junior "reinstatements".
That's the compromise. Efficiency vs. seniority.
