Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Speaking of the region, I've been doing a little target study for my trip to Saigon next month.

Heyas,
For you fNWA types, the "part 3" orientation is up on LMS, if you want to get a head start.
Its FPS (flight planning) and AWABS. Bring caffeine.
Interesting question....it looks like they are going to run FPS/Worldflight and AWABS/MGL concurrently, depending on the fleet and the layout of the program looks like some of our fDAL brothers will have to sit through a Worldflight/MGL class.
Having sat through it, Some parts of FPS are nice and I like some of the detail it goes into, but I think the layout of Worldflight is better for finding what you need. I also like how everyone gets their own copy of the release.
MGL, OTOH, is the hands down winner. Pop a runway in the box, and out spits the answer. No interpretation needed, and saves an a$$load of paper. AWABS is nice if you have to compare and contrast, but you can do that on the prelim MGL anyway.
To be honest, despite getting the numbers at the gate, things are WAY busier on the taxiout than they ever were under the NWA system, and God forbid you get a runway change. You might as well pull off into the de-ice pad and sit for 15 minutes while you search for all the tiny black boxes (ya couldn't collect them in a "runway change" section, now could ya?).
My $0.02. I'm just blathering because it's raining here and I'm bored.

I know it has been a big pill for the fNWA guys to swallow to transition to mostly Delta stuff but its gettin' a little old to hear that everything was better the way NWA did it or easier or more efficient or whatever! Maybe it was or maybe it wasn't but good grief every single thing for you guys seems to be worthy of complaining about...Lets hope the changes come to an end soon for everyone!
With regard to the boxed items, once you figure it out it takes no more than a couple minutes to send off for the new numbers, put them in the box and run the change items.
If I misinterpreted your post then I apologize in advance, just getting worn out on all the NWA was better than DAL ...

Heyas Ferd,
Well, here's the deal, lest you think I'm some kind of weird hermit that lives for this stuff between World of Warcraft games:
I was actually prepping for my 606 training later this month by making an effort to go through the FOM, VOL 1 and the FTM....so I'm scanning through the section on AWABS, and I kept asking myself "how the f*@# does that work again?". Seeking enlightenment, I thought that maybe there'd be somethin in the LMS on it, and lowe and behold, there it was.
With that said, I was fairly interested to see how it worked, and I make a good faith effort to try to absorb the material presented. Doing this, it took me a good hour and a half.
With that said, AWABS is NOT MGL, and it takes a good long look and some comprehension to figure it out. It ain't like MGL where it just spits out the best answer, you choose flex or no flex, then punch in the numbers and off you go.
AWABS, even the ACARS version (aha, the reason for the BIG printers), is more like getting a hardcopy of the non-ACARS closeout MGL, except with 3 or 4 more runways and 2 or 3 more flex/flap choices. You need to figure out how much you REALLY weigh (remember the tolerance memo?) and you then need to figure out which flex/flap combo works, rather than having the computer automatically do it.
It's no wonder that they make you get this before pushback. It really takes some time compared to MGL.
NOT *****in', I'm just sayin'

Oh, we all can complain about something.
Why can't I just print out my nice Delta turbulence charts on the printer? No I have to plot using VORs and Lat Longs? Why?
See, it works both ways.
GET OVER IT GUYS...
Once the DAL IT systems can support your software without any major glitches effecting service, we will migrate to it.
If you don't like something (tiny box changes), then put in a change for it. A "Runway Change Items" checklist is a brilliant suggestion!!
FYI ... the runway change items are a recent change for us as well.

I'm FDAL and I'm with Nu on some stuff. The little boxed items weren't there a few years ago, if you changed runways, there was an acronym FJAM: FMS, Jeppeson (Sid), AWABS, MCP simple and effective.
As far as runway change awabs nu, most fleets just put in the new runway and hit send.
I want the best/easiest of both worlds, sounds like NW did a lot of stuff right/better.
