I'm not sure if the 72 AFTP are considered "inactive duty points." The 17 days AT is considered "active duty points." So, if you were to max out everything above, that would be 135 inactive points and 17 active duty points. If we're capped at 130, that means if you max out everything above you will earn 147 points pay and credit and 5 points pay only. Now, you can add 12 more days of AT, and unlimited (depending on the budget of the command) days of ADT. These are "active duty points" and you can earn a maximum total of 365/366 points per year.

It is definitely possible to get more than 130 points for pay AND retirement credit in the reserves per year. Just trying to clear this up a little. Hope it helps someone out.

A little sidenote: As of Jan08, AT/ADT in excess of 90 days per year will drop your retirement date by the equivalent amount. These do not have to be concurrent orders. Work 180 days on orders in one year, retire at 59 1/2. Work 90 days the next year, retire at 59 1/4. Work 89 days the following year, retire at 59 1/4. 90 days is key.
RD,

In your example above you would indeed get 147 points 130 Inactive points and 17 active dutypoints. The 72 IDT are most definitely inactive duty points but I think we are actually saying the same thing.

All active duty is golden and counts day for day for retirement. This counts all your active duty service, Annual training (AT), Active duty for training (ADT), ADSW etc. There is no limit on Active duty - every day of active duty counts 100% for retirement.

Other retirement points including the automatic 15 points, up to 48 annual IDTs, AFTPs, ATP, RMPs, and all non pay points are limited to 130 per anniversary year.

You can; however, go over 130 points total - it is only the inactive (drill) points that are capped at 130. I averaged well over 150 points a year while in a squadron. Keep in mind drill limits other then entitlements (48 IDT) are just that limits. For example in a flying unit you may be authorized up to 72 AFTPs but that does not mean that your unit is funded for it.

Also many units do a lot more than 17 days AT. I averaged about 60 days annual AT in a VR squadron.

Hope this helps with clearing it up.

Although i'm not really sure that "interest" is the correct word.

A person with psychiatric training would have much to say about an intense and consistent need to give the impression of foreknowledge. In fact, they already have.

Carry on please. It is fascinating
It is fascinating because more often than not he is right. Right down to, "the AE results will be psted at noon on 1/1/10/" (They were posted somewhere between 11:56 and 12:06)

Carry on acl. I appreciate the foreknowledge....

Exactly, and one has to live with that. Just calling balls and strikes.
