Not worried about competition. It's healthy and good for business. What isn't is unsustainable, cutthroat competition like what we're experiencing now with Virgin and JBLU several years ago.
Agreed, and Virgin America is just helping the matter by offering 39 dollar tickets up and down the West Coast.

Funny - yet we are very excited about the prospect of Guam flying and the difference between our bubbas that will "not even think about that" and us who are dreaming about that is only $10 an hour or so. (LT seat / RT comparison)

Or it might have just been a really cheap jab (as usual) at one of the guys on here that has some worthwhile info to pass along......

GUM would be a little different Bar. You were an EVer. Tell me, do you think they would take care of their pilots like DAL would, move no move, TDY no TDY it makes no difference. It is a different game.

Plus, GUM is a lot different than some island off of Vietnam!

You, or I, run a red light and the ticket will beat us home from a four day. Heaven forbid we should drive through Atlanta at 70 answering a short call and get the new "super speeder" fine. But, If you are a multibillionaire investor you tell the US DOT to kiss your butt and they do nothing. How Virgin America still holds a Operations Certificate is beyond me.

If the rules simply don't apply, why do we let the FAA violate anyone? If Virgin is above the law, why aren't the rest of us?

... and if we buy / merge with Alaska, that is exactly what we are competing against. United and Virgin are in a fight to the death. Alaska's in a bad neighborhood with that action goin down. Also, Delta already code shares with Virgin.

The only upside I see to an Alaska merger is taking back some of our code share scope.

I read Slow's post, and took it at face value, walked away got some stuff done, and then I come back and see that quoted. I truly went back to see what I missed.

Cheap Jab?, Yep, I agree with that, but it was just funny coming from Nu!

Perception more than reality. Our relocation package is very weak and we have yet to see what they come up with, if they come up with anything. Even FedEx is having problems staffing their Asian Ops and they have like a $3,500 a month COLA.

Just curious, what would keep SkyWest from pulling a Republic and setting up our Guam operation? New Certificate and they could use those big RJ's allowed under our scope, but as of yet not placed into service. It will be interesting to see how Jerry structures this. As we all know, Mesa's Asian home for orphan RJ's failed miserably.

Bar when the details of this ASA deal comes out you will agree that DL would do better.

I moved for EV once, I would not do it again. The moving allocations stunk. I still paid 5000 for my move on top of their co-pay.

This is a contract deal, and I bet dollars to doughnuts that it will not get even the deplorable deals that those that have done TDY in the past have gotten.

Also it is not a Billion in cash. It is about 300 million or so in cash. That number has probably gone up a little, but it was not a straight cash deal.

As for GUM, 21 73N's would be great, but marketing needs to commit for there to be a base there. The need to commit for at least 18 months. Until then we are looking at long 73N trips. If I had to guess, they would probably be LAX crews since there is a direct flight from LA to GUM. Just a guess though.
ACL,
If you reread what I wrote I said 1 Billion dollars in cash AND Commitments (Loans, freebies, ie.... ). I think the 300 million cash was raised up to 500 million if the final offer. When our 5% raise (Jan 1 2009) to the pilot group was worth 100 million to the pilot contract, it make you wonder how much GOOD the money could do to the pilot contract. Either way, the point is until Moak and Co tell us what the "deal" is for DAL pilots, I am not ready to throw confetti and have a parade down Virgina Ave.

Yes, I understand we need a strong Delta to make money and be profitable, but the company is committing to a number of area that do help get a raise in 2012 and contract improvements.

As far as a direct flight to GUM from LAX, I have looked on travelnet and going out through April 8, there is NO flight on Delta metal. I only know of direct flights on Continental thru HNL.......of course it was reported in GUM media that a carrier IS planning direct mainland service. It does not exist now.
