I wouldn't ignore Pro-Standards either, now that they're calling. I said I thought you were fofeiting that decision by starting a discussion on APC. APC is a great venue to tell a good story. Pro-Standards is a good venue to discuss professional issues.

At any rate, the horse is dead.

Take care,

3 points:

1) I think I flew down to my interview with that guy in the captain's seat. The passenger next to me commented, "I didn't need to hear that." I keep that remark in mind every time I key the PA myself to regale the passengers with tales of derring-do in the mighty Herc.

2) If that Guam base turns out to be a "fly in, fly your tail off for 14 days, fly home" kind of thing, I'll bid for it every other month. I love the Pacific, but I won't subject my kids to Guam's public schools.

3) If Alaska happens, the challenge (once again) is to build an SLI that everyone can live with. Sure, I'd love to have all those guys stapled below me, but one needs to only to compare the DAL N/S experience to US Air's continuing troubles to know that sticking it to the other pilot group is the road to pain.

BTW, it might come as a surprise to learn that most if not all at Alaska are happy flying the equipment and domestic routes they do. *WB and long-haul international would be of no interest. *As a result, Life-long fences would be expected...and fair.
I agree in that all I've heard of Alaska is that those who are there really really wanted to be hired and work there. Not as many "I put my app out everywhere and they were the first to call" types. I've also heard that the ANC pilots are a tight nit group within the airline. Which I'm sure there is a big difference in a LAX or SEA (hq) guy and one who flew 732s on to gravel runways and their other legendary places.

However, I doubt the fences will even exist outside of maybe ANC and their pilots will struggle with that as much as our beleaguered LAX pilots.

Something about lifelong fences really bothers me. If we're one company, we're one company.

Might bother you, but it won't bother most at AS...

What's more important is relative seniority preservation within NB fleet.

I agree 100%. 5-10 year fences....maybe. Lifelong fences will create way too much bad blood.
