Also, the big variable is where the bulk of the narrow body flying out of LGA will come from. Will it be NYC pilots or increased flying from ATL? Not that that helps the exodus of 450 widebody slots out of ATL. But at some point the big flying will come back here. I just think the next 18-24 months will be shared pain for all.
In the Investor Day talk yesterday, Glen said the additional LGA flying is going to connect LGA with the old US Air cities in the NE. Most of the flights would be to the NW (aka: BUF, SYR, Toronto), N (Albany, Burlington, Montreal) and NE (Portland, Bangor, Manchester, Boston). He said that Delta has always had good feed from the south, but they envisioned LGA being mostly O/D traffic - 75%. It would be larger RJs or smaller mainline aircraft. The existing feed to the South (DCA, Florida, etc) would help improve the 25% some, because USAir didn't have much connecting traffic (I think USAir flew to their hubs in the south, while we serve MIA, TPA, MCO, etc from LGA).
On a lighter note:

I really like the comments towards the end. Then again, I'm partial.

Schedules
What's up with the schedules this morning? Not one category at any DAL-N base is done. Only DAL-S positions.

Read a little, staffing reports for 2010, parking 60 DC-9's since the merger was announced, all the 747-200's, bunch of 757's. A new route here and there should not make us all feel super secure about the future. Sorry, to be a bit negative, but 1+1=3 shouldn't mean huge displacement bids like the one coming up. Better than most, but not great.
Now, I'm not sure why you're saying that 1+1=3 shouldn't mean huge displacement bids like the one coming up. I see WB positions being awarded in NYC, DTW, and most likely in some other places too. The WB flying in ATL is not being terminated, it's simply being shifted to other bases. There are also more postitions available on this AE then surpluses, so I don't agree with your assessment. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems as if your implying that these displacments would be setting up for the F bomb, but the problem with that is there are WB positions being awarded. Also, there are new positions availabe on the 320 and 737. They are not just shoving a bunch of guys down to the MD88 or DC9. If I saw that, then I may be a little less optimistic.
That being said, I never forget that a furlough is always a possibility but I refuse to live my life in a constant state of fear. I'm not saying you do, I'm just saying I won't.
Here's to more WB positions in ATL soon, and here's to a profitable 2010.
Cheers
