Not all of those 20 slots going domestically are going to go to the US. My guess is a lot will be to Europe.

Thanks.

Actually, when you give ANA 10 slot pairs, and you give CAL and UAL 5 (for example), and ANA uses 4 for Europe, that still leaves them with 9 total slot pairs for the U.S. How many really juicy markets do we have, anyway? I wouldn't think the number of cities that can support flights to NRT is greater than 20 or 25, at the outside.

So maybe it does make a dent.

Another thing I didn't catch at first: the 5th freedom now works for both sides. If JAL wants to have a HND-LAX-EZE (or GRU), they can sell tickets between the U.S. and Argentina (or Brazil). Ouch.

NWA initialized this service with A320's then up-gauged to the 75 to meet demand.

A 27L
B 27R
C 28
D 26L

When you find the proper runway/intersection, you can send the request back with just the letter, for example if you wanted 28 you could send

88/C

Then you will get the numbers for 28. If you think you may get some changes, you can send the bogus message on pushback and have the list ready when you are on the taxiway.

One other trick, if you are on a performance limited runway, you should toggle to "No Tolerance" after pushback. Sometimes this will make you legal for takeoff. It works especially at SNA when sometimes you are overweight for the active with the tolerance, but are good to go without the tolerance. Saves waiting for 30 minutes to do an opposite direction takeoff.

Alpha,

The Preliminary Departure Report that you get from the Gate Agent has all the possibly runway codes on it printed for you. You can even get the letter designator for each one from the same report. So, you don't ever have to send a bogus report to get the list.

As I read the (not so) open skies press releases, I dont see any marked change between what was signed and what the positions were 3 weeks ago. One BIGEE does stand out and that is the loss of 5th freedom. This means JALs value as a potential JV just went up in value for AA and DAL.

Is it me or is it time to JUST SAY NO!

It could be that I have had no sleep or that my Christmas once again will be rewarded by another move backward or that it seems there are an ever growing number of Delta flights with only Delta's code on it.

Lee: JUST SAY NO.

We can go over what LM has accomplished or not. The fact of the matter is that I get this sickening feeling that we have lost our negotiating power for the upcoming contract. You don't get crap in return for being a nice guy but do for being professional. I'm getting the same EXACT same gut wrenching feeling that our direction is seriously wrong. Quit giving away everything the damned company asks for. We are in serious trouble my friends, I can see it, feel it, and I don't like it a bit. I just hope I'm wrong; I'm wrong a lot. I speak my mind here tonight not to argue with anyone, just as a prospectus to promote thought and what you really want from this career as it will not be given to you, WE have to earn it.

It is time, my friends, to start bombarding our reps with the direction this pilot group wants to go. We can not get it done by elections alone, they need our input and direction by the masses. I don't think there is one member on this board that likes the Alaska or Virgin Blue or open skys agreements. The latter we have little control over but unless we tighten the reigns on this big donkey we work for, the jobs will simply go to the lowest cost provider willing to slap a widget on the side of their airplane.

I guess the other alternative is to continue along the direction this country is going and pay more taxes out of our dwindling pay checks. Hey, maybe we could raise the retirement age to 80 so that we can earn a marginal professional wage for just a few more years. That way we can pay more taxes, not drain Social Security, and keep our junior pilot brothers repressed even further.

OK, rant over.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and to a New Year,
Cheers everyone,
BD
