The CA positions usually start appearing by the 14th.

All are done many times by the 16th, but NLT 1800 on the 17th.

This goes way beyond you apparently subsidizing my choice to commute. Airlines put bases ALL over the country, but never give COLA. It's great that you're senior enough to hang out in ATL, but what about the guys that can't? Now that they can't afford to sell their house, what are they supposed to do? Who is going to cover that? And what safe non crackhouse place can one live in in the NYC area with a family on 1st year pay, or how about LAX?

I really fail to see how you would be subsidizing my choice to commute. And you're putting a sterotype on all commuters calling us dishonest, and all abusers of the sick call policy.

And you honestly think the Call in Honest policy cost the company revenue any more then DHing crew around? Many people have only called in ONCE, and most have never had to do so. I personally have done it once, and there was still enough room to get non revs on.

A call in honest policy costs you nothing. DALPA really needs to drop this what are we willing to give up for it mentality.

I believe you are mistaken on the pay- there is no difference on the pay between domestic 767 and 7ER (remember the 757 and 767 are under the same pay scale), just when you fly an international trip you get override.

Pineapple sees that as a choice. They chose to become a pilot and buy a house. It's their fault the company downsized ATL.

Since you want to use the military analogy, didn't the Military give a cost of living adjustment to you based on where you lived once they transferred you? Do we get extra from DAL to live in NYC, no. How about LA, SEA, MSP, MEM etc - NO NO NO.

We commute because we can and in some cases for the reasons many have listed. If you don't commute. good for you. Just try to stop looking down your nose at those that do. Not all of us can live in base, I'd give you personal reasons but you don't care. Just try a little empathy.

Regarding the open skies thing...

My Read:

Sure, it's open skies, but not open slots. Without slots, they're worthless. just like Heathrow.

The Tokyo market (Haneda/Narita) was excluded from open skies. They want to draw down the percentage of US marketshare, but the adjustment will come from an INCREASE in the slots allocated, which I think means current service will be unaffected.

Remember, with the drawdown of the frieghter ops, DAL will have unused slots that they have to do something else with or lose them.

Really the only three places in Japan with enough O&D to pull from the US non-stop are Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo, which already has service.

Heyas,

Pineapple is missing ONE CRITICAL thing from his miserable analysis.

Commuting and living where you want is an implied benefit of the job.

Considering how much trouble we all went through to get here, and the salary that we say we are worth, that's a cost of doing business.

To lump us in with the mechanics, pencil jockeys, or even the FAs is to do us all a BIG diservice. It's obvious that he's bitten into the psychological warfare that managament has been pushing the last 20 years that degrades pilots to the lowest common denominator.

He reminds me of that old FA joke, where a newbie FA hears that new-hire pilots have 6 weeks of ground school and says "heck I had 4, only 2 more weeks and I could have been a pilot!"...
