Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
South Guys,
With the conversion window ending in Dec '10, is it safe to assume that if you don't get an AE or get displaced on this bid, that you will be in your current position at least until then?
As in, if I don't bid anything or get bumped, I'll still be on the -9 in December?

Especially since they are using their annual "year long conversion window" on this bid, there can and almost certainly will be another bid before everyone is converted from this one.
Could even be one as soon as maybe February.
Crew Resources often puts out small bids immediately following really big ones.
They call them "clean-up bids".

There is a bus for $30 that goes from JFK-EWR and back every hour. Look up airporter.com. Obviously most everyone is coming from Queens though and not JFK. But fwiw I've used it and I've used a cab. I got the cab at the airport, fare was I think $100 even after tolls. I think. I know it was over $100 after tip.
Also, for like $11 you can catch the Amtrak or some train from EWR's airtrain station to Penn Station. Its easier than the bus to EWR Penn although that is the cheapest round trip I've done. But I also had two not so lovely experiences with EWR Penn in the middle of the night.
Sailing you're making me rehash repressed memories of Newark.

When I commuted to New York (admittedly a number of years ago) my experience was covering the various "local" airports was a monumental PITA.
At this point in my life I have no intention of bidding into a situation whereby I voluntarily subject myself to that level of "hassle factor".
I am thankful that there are pilots more senior to me who are
If all US airlines get equal access to Japanese airports, Delta will lose on this deal big time. The only variable left is the codeshare, if AMR keeps JAL and I imagine they will, lots of questions for Delta's future in the East. I don't think it's a stretch to say that our presence in Japan will be diminished. Im guessing that Delta will get a number of Haneda slots in exchange for the removal of all 5th freedom rights. Hope Im wrong on that. We'll know as more info. becomes public.
Im guessing this is the reason for the Guam base? We'll still be watching the game, it's just going to be from the nosebleed seats, further from the action so to speak.
Hope Im wrong on this, but damn it would hurt to see our widebody flying pulled down in Asia because of this.
Here we go again.... Last time I checked, NYC is a pre-merger DAL base and they gained big. Get over it, NWA doesn't exist anymore and there's nothing you and I can do about it, it's ALL DAL now.
Are you so ignorant that you think there are no former NWA pilots and families that will also get displaced and affected by this AE?
Time to start rowing together my friend, we're all in this boat together like or not so might as well get along...

Now as for the last sentence of your post, you are correct sir. It's time to stop complaining about a contract that you voted for and pining for a company that no longer exists. So let's start rowing and getting along.

Negative. It is not a safe assumption.

So they don't have to finish the training from the first one before they start the trsining for the next AE. Got it (I think). Thanks.

Not necessarily. Even though the conversion window is for a year, it could be done well before that. Last years one bid that had the year conversion was all done within about 6 months. I also read on the ALPA forum under the thread about Dickson's lounge briefing that there may be another bid out in the May (I think) time frame.

While this is true, the likelihood of another bid occurring soon enough for one to realize reinstatement rights with the next Advanced Displacement is almost nil. I have said this before that our "reinstatement" rights SUCK, ESPECIALLY in a downturn. Fix it.
