I did it because getting an appointment was like waiting in line at the DMV. I tried to just show and they wouldn’t see me unless you were inbound on an international flight. Also you need to have been told to schedule an interview so there is a varying lag time between submitting your application and getting the opportunity to schedule an interview.

Thx! I'm "conditionally approved, awaiting interview". But you answered my question as to showing up vs. showing up from an international flight.

Did you not like the answer you got when you asked this last time?

"As many as they can schedule" must not be a meaningful answer to someone outside the industry.

What’s going on with moving up the departure time 5 mins early in ATL these days? Is it every flight or just certain flights. Is there a way to tell which flights will get it? I was connecting thru Atl this morning and my inbound flight was late, sprinted to my departure gate and got there 15 mins prior to the scheduled departure and the flight was closed. A Red Coat was working it and absolutely refused to let me on as a non rev or list me for the jump seat. He was pretty belligerent about it. I suppose I could have tried to get the crews attention but I just backed off, went and debriefed the CPO and caught the next flight. The Chief pilot didn’t seem familiar with the 5 min early thing but I saw multiple flights with the 5 early posted while walking down the concourse.

Sorry about your commute. It's pretty common though, I've seen 10 early (20 prior to scheduled) as well, not sure why the CP wasn't familiar with it. I wholeheartedly disagree with them denying you if you were already checked in, but technically they were doing it by the book. Reasons could be numerous, expected downline delays or trying to open the gate for the next flight are the first that come to mind.

Happeed to me as well, along with two HVC's coming off first class international. 10 prior, door closed, jetbridge pulled, to bad so sad. It is what it is.
