When I asked why they are putting people on SQ that are qualified to fly a trip, both times they didn’t have an answer.

it’s possible all 2-3 people getting SC could be NQ...scheduling “thinks” they have people at the ready when they really don’t, and they don’t figure it out until they run the TC for the short notice trip and none of the SC pilots names show up....NOOPS will follow...I saw two domestic NOOPs out of NYC just the other day as I was getting tagged with a 5 day RES trip.

Delta IT is a sh!t show that hampers scheduling ability to correctly do its job....I expect more form a fortune 100 company.

yes I’m chatted with the CPO both times to hightlight scheduling ineptitude.
Yep. Had something similar happen to me. Expired on landing currency. No NQ on my schedule, I get a call.....Scheduling says, congrats you have a charter to Bulgaria tomorrow. I’m like thanks, but I’m not current. NQAT on my schedule by the end of the day. Bounces scheduled soon after. Delta IT blows and it’s a **** show in scheduling. A lot of times just chasing their tail. I put ZERO stock in reserves avail, SC, coverage ladder, etc, these days.....

Years ago this pilot gets in the hotel van to the airport, I think in MSP, bragging about how he helped write the code for PBS and how it was intentionally complicated so only a select few could get what they wanted. I’m still surprised I resisted the urge to punch him in the back of the neck.

No pilot at Delta helped write any code for PBS. It’s a vender sourced 3rd party program. Multiple versions are used by many airlines. Airbus bought out the original company that wrote the program and now owns it.

I have about 13 years here and I'm still a narrow-body fo. There's a reason why captain went junior when we were hiring. Hint: it's not because pilots would rather be first officers.

I didn’t care about the validity of his story. Still wanted to punch him.

Sorry to be so slow, I'm not picking up on your hint. Can you just spell it out for me?

It's because our schedules are so hard to manipulate if you don't have weekends and holidays off after initial PBS run. No one wanted to be junior. Narrow-body captain was hitting the bottom of the list almost. Now that no hiring is going on, profit sharing is gone, and company using reinstatement loophole to keep pilots locked out of upgrading, I expect captain to go way more senior in future bids. Who knows how long you'll have to wait going forward if you pass on a bid. I know I have my captain bids in.
