You seem to think there is choice when a line is built to 85 hours during the summer months. I believe we brought back color coding reserves available for a reason, and its not artistry.

There are many ways to reduce how much you fly in a month even summer. There may be times when it’s impossible but with careful bidding and use of all available contractual options that would be rare.

I disagree, APDs, IVDs, have both been denied. I do OK because I have figured it out but for the over 50% in seat crowd very little can be done unless you drop everything and rebuild on the 20th. once the month starts there's no swapping unless you pick up days that are low.

You can IVD, APD, PD and or WS in the previous month to cause a drop. You an bid at least one summer vacation. You can slide vacation. You can structure your initial pbs bid to force a low time award. You can place trips as just pick up on the swap board. You can place trips as qualified drops in DBMS. All of the above failing would be rare.

If you know a month and a half ahead, it is easier but not a guarentee. I have never held a summer vacation week, only <30% can hold those because of the limited number. Less than 3 weeks out no way you can drop a trip, they are all 4 or 5 days and most likely touch a weekend.

This is something I tried to address in the survey months back. We need better limits on the company’s ability to make certain vacation weeks almost none available and other parts of the year excess numbers available. Ample vacation during months you don’t fly much anyway is much less valuable.
