I go non-current on 1 Feb. Yes, I've tried to Yellow and Greenslip. And yes I filled out the 14 days of availability thing in icrew (down to 4 days left...)

I have never gone non-current so I am not the best source, but from keeping up on the Forums I believe they will schedule you once you go non-current. From what I understand you want to go before you go non-current because it is just a few landings and no big deal. Once you go non-current you have a more rigorous syllabus. Not sure if its a big deal or not but in either case its probably too late for you.

I would call scheduling tonight or call your CPO tomorrow.

I called the pilot support center on either Wednesday or Thursday. They transferred me over to the training department and I left a message explaining the situation. No response. Will try again tomorrow.

Usually I get the Recency sim scheduled about 7 days before I am scheduled to run out of landing currency. You'll see a pop-up in Icrew and it will show on your schedule. Depending on your days off, fleet and reserve vs regular line holder, you might find out on Monday.

It's a bigger problem if you go non-current, both for you and the company. The company loses you as a pilot until you're current and when you go to the sim, it's more of a CQ event than just 3 takeoffs and landings (but not CQ, just one sim period). I have never run out of currency in ten years, because I've done probably 8 recency events to get landings. Some were only a few days before I ran out (because of scheduling) but it was always done.

You don't get much say in what day you'll do the sim, but you do schedule your own flights to and from the sim.

Speaking of SIM’s:

I was scheduled for special re-qual training (returning from long term MLOA) with a Captain who was returning from long term sick. Our syllabus was 3 days, plus a travel day.

Well, the Captain got sick again and cancelled. My training is now 2 Sim periods, plus a travel day.

Am I pay protected for that third SIM day? I don’t want to lose money because my training partner Captain called out sick. That doesn’t seem right.

Going non current is actually a good deal. I wouldn't tell a soul other then fill out the template for availability. If you fall of their radar stay home with pay. Non current sim vs currency sim almost the same. My preference would be Non current for the longer the better.

Default Return from mil leave question

I think I know the answer to this, but I’ll throw it out to see what the educated forum folks think.

Return from long term mil leave at end of March. Plan to switch categories since I was out from the 5 Jan 2018 AE. On the AE projected conversions, there are guys junior to me that convert in APR, but they don’t require training, just base swap. The guy below me that requires training is scheduled to train in May, convert in Jun.

Will CR send me to get recurrent in old equipment and fly that until May, or send me through training based on the guys just swapping base?

Any thought are greatly appreciated for family/sanity planning.

It depends how long you were out. I think if your mloa lasted over 6 months, they will train you out of seniority order if there's a slot to do so. If training is saturated in your new category they could still send you to your old equipment...requal footprint is pretty short.

So, the answer might be "nobody knows." You're hoping for NQAT...Non Qualified Awaiting Training. Assuming you provide 30 days notice of your return, you'll get paid 1/30th of the ALV per day starting on your return date for every day you sit awaiting training. It seems most MLOA return folks see less than 10 of these days, some get none at all and travel to training on the day they return to active status.

And remember, that guy junior to you isn't scheduled for anything, just projected. Until it's on his schedule, that plan is in jello and they can easily put you in that slot (or an earlier one)...or delay you both.

Great advice. Only out for 90ish days, so I’ll be ready for anything I guess.

If you don't want to go to the sim, call the CPO now and have them buy you a trip.

I would call and make sure you can pick a category from the last AE and do not have to return to your original category. For most leave types if your not out more than six months you go back to your original category. Not sure on mil leave but I would check.
